Wishes from Teyvat Toronto (Grievances + Cosplay Photos)
I attempted to attend the Wishes from Teyvat event at the Eaton Centre in Toronto the other day and I have grievances. The event was managed very very very VERY poorly. I arrived with a couple companions at the event at about 3:00 pm and we promptly got in line. The line was rather long, but not too long, I thought. It just went about halfway down the block, maybe less, figured it wouldn’t take longer than an hour, or half. However, the line simply didn’t move. It took about a half hour for the line to move about five paces. I was asked “how long are we going to stand in line?” I said “we can leave when the sun goes down.” As a joke. Three hours later the sun went down and we still weren’t anywhere near the door. We even stayed some time after that before we just had to call it. I’m confident that the event would have closed up shop long before we would have gotten through the door, then there was an indoor line after that still. Earlier in the day, one of my companions walked by the wishing booth to see what was going on and she saw someone’s feet in the booth. Several minutes later she walked by it again and saw the same pair of feet. What were people doing in there, attending to their extensive backlog of e-mails? She also heard that someone in line just at the door had been waiting for five hours. For anyone unaware, the object of this event was essentially to go into the booth, press a button and receive a postcard. That’s about it. If I’m going to stand 6-7 hours in line for a postcard, it had better be signed and handed to me by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. I’m serious. At the end of the day, I did feel cheated that we had stood in line for so long and left with nothing to show for our time. I did my part, I showed up. I want my postcard. On the bright side however, I did show up looking particularly fabulous as a modern Raiden Shogun and I did come away from the event with some rather lovely photographs. Also, a really sweet girl dressed as Xiao came up to me, told me I looked really pretty and asked for a photograph with me. It was very nice of her. That made the whole day worthwhile, or at least bittersweet. I’m still disappointed I was cheated out of my postcard.
