The Pressures of Ruling a Kingdom

while being an introvert.

Anybody old enough to have watched the original Lion King and gets this reference?

Anyway so a while ago I talked about my thoughts on the story of Inazuma and that I think MiHoYo had to make certain changes. After Kokomi's story quest I feel even more so about it but with a caveat.

Spoiler Warning since this quest is really new.

If you haven't played it yet you have been warned!

And that caveat is Kokomi's rule. Originally I believed that the story would end with Kokomi being placed in charge of Inazuma following the overthrow of the Raiden Shogun. The inclusion of an overthrow prevented that ending from happening but as I pointed out it is very hard to rewrite things that have already been planned.

So how does Kokomi's Character Quest fit into this? Well I think I may have actually overshot my idea on what the overthrow was supposed to mean. From this quest I think Kokomi was always going to be placed in charge of Watatsumi and even while the Shogunate would have been removed from power Kokomi wouldn't end up in charge of the whole region. Instead either Kujou Sara or some other character would be placed in charge of Narukami.

There are peace talks between Sara and Kokomi and it's meant to reintegrate the resistance consisting of the people of Watatsumi and Narukami. But peace talks in real life happen between nations not parts of a nation. (correct me if I'm wrong) In other words instead of a regime change we're looking at a war for independence.

So if this version was still in play this would be Kokomi now ruling the independent state of Watatsumi and engaging in peace talks and international cooperation with the reformed Tri-Commission represented by Kujou Sara. Now during these talks Sara would be working on behalf of Inazuma hoping to draw Watatsumi back into the nation proper before it has a chance to establish itself. This is why she talked about trade taxation and then absorbing Watatsumi's soldiers back into the Tenryou Commission. In this version she would likely request that Watatsumi's soldiers work in cooperation with Narukami's under the Tenryou who "could better equip and train" them. Kokomi then uses the coup to damage the Tenryou Commission's standing and reject Sara's offer. She would say it looks like the Tenryou need to better train themselves first so Watatsumi will just have to fend for itself for the time being. Again in this version Sara would have to acquiesce. And the taxation part was likely a play against Watatsumi's financial state since we know how costly the war was for them. That is still actually Sara's best shot at reintegrating Watatsumi if not for-

The Fatui. Their presence could have worked out either way. Going off what we got the Fatui were ousted for trying to poison the resistance with Delusions and fool the Tenryou Commission. After Signora died the last bunch plotted revenge. In my version the Fatui were working both sides. The Tenryou side remains unchanged but in her desperation Kokomi actually does make a deal with the Fatui. As a strategist she's smart enough not to really trust them so in this quest she's conning both sides. Sara hates the Fatui for what they got her family to do. Signora still died and the Fatui still want to destabilize Inazuma so the coup plot would still happen. But Kokomi would have known about it and planned to use it to derail Sara in their talks which she still does in the game. Also in my version the MC feels used by the Fatui while being part of the resistance so this quest would have been to rehabilitate Kokomi's character too. The scenes dealing with the coup would play out almost the same way except maybe with hints that Kokomi knew all along.

Side note: It could just be to help with farming but Inazuma's Ley Lines have many more instances of Fatui enemies than either Mondstadt or Liyue. Kokomi's deal with the Fatui would explain the greater numbers. The version we have actually makes less sense since we're being told most of them fled Inazuma already. Unlike Inazuma the Fatui are still diplomats in Mondstadt and Liyue.

If my version did play out though in this updated way just who would be left in charge of Inazuma? What would Yae's role be in the new regime? Would Watatsumi remain a separate nation for the rest of the game or would future events reunite the two sides?

What do you guys think?
