You know how some of the complainers sometimes say that "it's not just us! The Chinese players are unhappy too!" when they have some issue with the game/developer?
Yeah about that.

The argument works because most of us don't know what the other side is actually saying. We likely don't speak or read Chinese so we just have to take the complainer's word for it. Well there is one Chinese player who happened to be overseas at the time of Genshin's launch and they decided on playing the same global version that we're all on. And because of that they also decided to hang out on our social media platforms when it came to the game. But unlike us they can also go on China's social media. And after the anniversary's latest "the Chinese players are angry about it too" argument they decided to take a stand and give a voice to their fellow Chinese players and their actual opinions.
So the following is a few of the things they put up that got my attention.

All of the quotes used by the player came from an article asking how Chinese players are responding to the western outcry against the anniversary's rewards. As you can see the response is a little different than people would have us believe.

This one needs a little context. So the article talked about how negative the response was to the anniversary rewards. It also quoted a few things from I'm going to guess Twitter and Reddit where again the complainers claim that everybody hates these rewards. I can't speak for everywhere but around here we tend to inflate our arguments so we'll say things like "the whole world thinks this" or "everybody in the world is against this." So the above comment according to the player is responding to these kinds of statements.
Speaking of which the comment I decided to start this off with states "#1 in China." That's something I personally came across many times. Unlike us Chinese people tend to pull back on arguments. Instead of claiming that "the world" agrees with them they'll probably say the people they know agree with them. So in this case while Genshin is legitimately one of the biggest things to hit the world the comment only claims the biggest in China alone. I kinda respect that humility.

These next comments are fun. So as the player explains the word 元 sounds just like the 原 in Genshin and it means money. Over here when we talk about how much Genshin's made we tend to mean it in a negative way accusing MiHoYo of greed. Well they have another take using this name for it to talk about its success. The second comment according to the player is implying that greedy gacha games usually don't look good but also that single-player games (I'm going to guess they just mean classic console/PC games) do look good. So in terms of Genshin they can't tell if it is a "cheap online gacha game" or a "quality offline game" because it looks so good. Kind of a backhanded way of mocking the greed claims. And the last comment is even more backhanded. This player is claiming that the game does a poor job of guiding players to the gacha system unlike your typical gacha/loot box games which would throw you right into the menu and teach you how to spend. I've played those games before haha.

There were also comments trying to be nice. This one speaks to me because it's very simple and I like this mindset. If you have money to spend go for it. If you don't this game is totally f2p friendly. You can yell and scream all you'd like but if you don't like the game (or say you don't like it) just delete the app and be on your way.

Then you have the people who don't even care. They are ignoring and continuing to be productive. Honestly if I could have a Lawachurl in my teapot I'd totally be up for that. Imagine the designs you could make around something like that. Could you have them chained? Could you put them into an arena pit? Could you have them sit at your outdoor table and have tea? MiHoYo get on this! [emoji]

And finally articles like this bring out the ultra-nationalists. This is already happening in the movie industry where there was like a Korean War historical drama that outpaced every blockbuster Hollywood's released since the pandemic including the darkhorse "worldwide" hit Shang-Chi.
After finding this one I decided it was a good thing to get out there because the "Chinese players are angry too" argument has been used many times lol. Can't do that anymore. [emoji]
Now if only MiHoYo noticed that they do have the seeds for good pr right in their hands they should be trying their hardest to nurture them and not be so tone-deaf. I mean this whole anniversary thing could have been avoided if they had their heads on their playerbase and not on some concert they thought would be cool.
