Not every fan is into PvP but of the many endgame things us Genshin players have been asking for PvP is among them. (The others being stuff like harder content and some event minigames made permanent.)
Now the one big problem with PvP that players talk about is hacking and breaking the game to artificially enhance performance. Well this kind of PvP eliminates that.
You compete side by side to get the better time on Abyss but the twist is that the teams try to predict each other's comps beforehand and you ban characters from use and then swap in a draft so you can lock your opponents out of a good comp as seen in the videos.
If this was an official type of competition it could be so much better because MiHoYo could obviously standardize it so that each character picked will have a uniform build. (for example you can equip any kind of Artifacts with maxed out stats and substats which is currently impossible in the regular game) Also instead of doing Abyss for the challenging enemies MiHoYo could provide a true PvP platform with various challenges per competition. And of course just like most esports the championship rounds could be set up live with standardized devices and internet connections to make sure there is the least amount of variables that might affect player performance.
AND on top of that these players even have ways to promote the game through their competition. As stated in the videos because Kokomi and the Shogun are the most recent new characters they are off limits on both draft and bans so both sides can choose them for either of their teams. This way the new characters get more exposure and in the hands of these capable players they'll look very good to anybody watching. Imagine IWTL in this competition with his Shogun for example. Or AsianGuyStream with his Zhongli/Aether comp. This could be so fun. In fact I was on the edge of my seat for just these videos just like any esport.
MiHoYo really needs to stop being so tone-deaf. So many fun things are possible with this game and they are letting them all slip them by time after time.
