The iron gray cliff obscures the remnants of the sky on both sides, pulling everything into heavy gloom. Not a living soul and absolutely quiet. Nothing but wilderness within sight.
The huge blue planet hangs overhead and feels almost touchable, with its reflected clear blue rays showering the land beneath.
Lovely human, today the Elysian Realm Typewriter will share the design philosophy of the new Open World: New Atra. Come and take a look now!
New Atra
Due to Project Stigma, the story progresses to the part where everyone has been sent to the moon. Chapter XXXII End of the World has been released, and you can log in to experience the new Open World

What's the design philosophy of the new Open World: New Atra? Are there any interesting details that you might have failed to notice? Next, we'll take different perspectives to elaborate on the design philosophy of New Atra.
Early Concept Art
The moon is significant to the part 1 story of Honkai Impact 3rd. In the Previous Era, The MOTHs once landed on the moon and established a research base, and Honkai converged here too. Moon is not only where the Previous Era collided with the Current Era, but also the intersection of the two. Regarding the moon scene design, Honkai devs had different ideas for the early concept art.
For example, scene concept artists once intended to leave a large space for the MOTHs base on the moon, but later they downplayed this part to highlight the desolate environment of the moon.

As for the other scene designs, you can see from the main story that the Earth has been sealed by ominous runes and been playing a key role. In the early concept art, Honkai devs added a distant view of the Earth that highlights the expansive view of the moon.

Scene Design Philosophy
The Sanctuary was built in the high building to the side of the Moon Ruins entrance. This is where you begin the new story on the moon. Meanwhile, the Sanctuary is an important functional area where you can take a rest or exchange intel.
According to the creative concept, the facilities in the Sanctuary are constructed under the guidance of Gray Serpent. Therefore, Honkai devs integrated Gray Serpent's typical colors of black and green with futuristic technologies when designing these facilities.

For the Sanctuary and its peripheral area, Honkai devs thought a sense of security would be necessary for Captains to quickly adapt themselves to the new scene of the moon. But considering the way World Serpent does things, the Sanctuary actually looks more like a research facility on the moon.
