Notes: I didn't make it for Kaeya birthday, but I hope a day later is still okay \(^▽^)/ Happy birthday, Kaeya!

Kaeya returned home in the early morning while you were still asleep. You could feel the blanket pulling up higher to warm your body, as well as a light kiss in your hair. You then heard the cabinet door open and close silently, followed by hesitant footsteps on the wooden stairs, as if trying to make as little noise as possible.
You eventually turned around. It was not quite bright yet. You could tell Kaeya had returned, but he was not in the room. You got off the bed, took a woolen blanket, and wrapped yourself in it.
Kaeya could not be seen in the living room or kitchen. There was only one place to look for him. You walked inside his workroom and opened the door. Kaeya slumped face down at the desk, a mess of papers and books covering the surface. There was a glass of wine nearby that was missing just a sip. You walked over to him.
The mood in Mondstadt was more lively at the end of the year, with great festivals and winter markets open all night. It also meant that members of the Knights of Favonius would have to work harder to ensure the safety of residents and visitors throughout the holiday season. As their Cavalry Captain, Kaeya was responsible for night patrols and occasionally had to deal with the hilichurls who deliberately looted goods on the way. Although he always claimed that it was a little issue that he could solve in a flash, his worn expression every morning when he returned home made you want to give him a prolonged embrace.
Kaeya must have been tired after a rough night on patrol. He just had enough time to change into his pyjamas and put on a blue-gray nightgown that matched his hair color before sleeping in the workroom since he did not want to wake you up if he climbed into bed. He skipped breakfast and instead drank a glass of wine, yet still left it there. You sighed quietly. This guy can take care of the entire Mondstadt yet was unconcerned about himself.
Your cool fingers brushed over his cheekbone. Kaeya seemed to awaken. He took your hand in his and drew it closer to his face.
“Y/N…”
He mumbled your name sleepily. You were standing next to him, caressing his tousled hair.
"Kaeya, get up for breakfast and then go to bed."
Kaeya hummed briefly before following you into the living room. He insisted on assisting you with breakfast preparation, but you could not really allow him because of his worn expression. You left him in the living room and went to the kitchen by yourself. Breakfast was simple, consisting of tea break pancakes with berry jam and two cups of hot chocolate. Having them all done, you put them on a tray and took them to Kaeya in the living room.
When you were not around, he did fall asleep. He was still sitting, his head resting on the edge of the sofa, his eyepatch had been removed to rest on the table. He appeared to be like a sleeping kitten, which was both amusing and endearing to you. You approached and sat down next to him.
“Kaeya? Breakfast is ready.”
Kaeya awoke once more. His bewildered face glanced at you, then his arms found you, wrapped around your waist, and drew you up close. You stroked Kaeya's silky hair again as his head rested on your shoulder. You sealed it with a kiss.
"I need to convince Captain Jean to grant you some time off." You muttered.
Kaeya shook his head s l e e p i l y, stating in a kitten-like voice, "Without me, the Knights of Favonius wouldn't be okay at all..."
“Without you, I am not okay either…”
You exhaled a sigh. It's not that you're complaining; it's simply that you missed Kaeya and wished he could rest more. His hard work made you feel dreadful, as if you had not taken care of him at all.
Kaeya drew back, one hand still wrapped around your waist and the other caressing your cheek.
“My apologies, Y/N! Next week, another troop will take turns patrolling the night. I'll come home immediately and take you to the Mondstadt night market, okay?"
You sighed and responded, "I simply want Kaeya to pay attention to his own health. I'm not asking you to always be with me and console me."
Kaeya began to laugh.
"Yes. I know. I apologize for causing you concern. Now I'm going to eat my breakfast and then go to bed, like a good boy. You won't be able to wake me before five in the afternoon."
You laughed too. Kaeya only showed such childishness when you were together.
"Keep your words. If you get up before five, there won't be dinner for you."
Kaeya grinned cheerfully, his lips traveled down the length of your nose, halting just at your slightly parted lips. Outside, it was snowing.
