Let’s get to the conclusion first: Players who have Arataki Itto can consider pulling for the weapon, Noelle or Xinyan’s die-hard fans can consider pulling for it as well. Completionists and players with spare money can pull as they see fit.
Now onto the main article.
First, let’s check out the stats
Similar to the Primordial Jade Cutter (the Green Sword), it is a weapon with low base stats but high secondary stat.
The passive is also very simple, increasing DEF and increases DMG based on DEF.
However, the passive already limits the number of characters that are compatible with this weapon. The only Claymore characters that can make use of DEF at the moment are Arataki Itto, Noelle (6 Constellations), and Xinyan (6 Constellations)
=Arataki Itto=
Among the 5-Star weapons, the Redhorn Stonethresher is without a question the exclusive weapon made for Arataki Itto. The primary and secondary stat spread, as well as the passive on the weapon are perfectly compatible with Arataki Itto’s playstyle. The other 5-Star weapons all have subpar performance with Itto.
The Serpent Spine performs great among 4-Star weapons.
With 0 microtransactions, the only weapon that shows promise is the max refinement Whiteblind, but overall falls short when compared to the unrefined Serpent Spine.
Whiteblind is recommended for 0 microtransaction players, while those who don’t have the funds to take a dive in the weapon pool can go for the Serpent Spine. Unrefined Redhorn Stonethresher doesn’t offer too much improvement when compared to the max refinement Serpent Spine, so if you have extra Primogem to spend, consider investing them in getting the first Constellation for Itto to improve his initial burst.
=Noelle=
Similar to Arataki Itto, the only good 5-Star fit for Noelle that beats Serpent Spine is the Redhorn Stonethresher.
Serpent Spine still wins among 4-Star weapons. The Whiteblind, which used to be a worthy contender against the Serpent Spine, had its DEF advantage nerfed a lot after the addition of the Husk of Opulent Dreams artifact set.
Most Noelle players should have the max refinement Serpent Spine by now, but pulling for the Redhorn Stonethresher can be an option for min/maxers. The overall improvement isn’t anything impressive however, which increases DMG by around 7%.
=Xinyan=
Redhorn Stonethresher drastically increases the damage ceiling of Xinyan’s Elemental Burst with its 88.2% bonus CRIT DMG and Xinyan’s guaranteed crits on her ult. The weapon also increases DMG on Normal and Charged Attacks, proving excellent in combat.
Among 4-star weapons, Blackcliff Slasher performs better than Serpent Spine because of its CRIT DMG Bonus. If you're determined to build Xinyan, you can pull a copy for her.
=Summary=
Overall, even if its stats look impressive, Redhorn Stonethresher is still a weapon that has limited versatility in the game. Currently it's only recommended for Arataki Itto, Noelle, and Xinyan mains, since all other characters have better alternatives.
