Hello Fellow Travelers 👋
Recently I have stumbled upon a lot of reports of Genshin Impact accounts being hacked and then sold on some random Russian websites. These stories are appearing everywhere, here in the HoYoLAB community as well as in other media outlets. The reason for this is very simple and is also what I want to make you guys aware of:
Your Genshin Impact account is valuable! Keep it safe!
The people behind these hacks know this and that is why they are out to get you. 💀 And because these accounts are so valuable, there is a huge incentive to steal them. It doesn't matter if you are a free to play player, if you spend a couple of dollars every once in a while or if you are a Whale 🐳. Time and money spent in the game are both worth protecting!.
I work in the Informatics field and I'm just terrified of what I have seen, but I'm not here to scare you, I'm just going to give some simple tips to keep your account away from the hands of these despicable guys ☠️.
- Use a strong password for your game account. 🔐 Don't use the same password you have used previously for other games or platforms. If possible, store it in a password manager. (OnePass, LastPass, etc).
- Do not input your password in any website except for MiHoYo's official websites. You already know what those are, and probably have them bookmarked. Don't input your credentials anywhere else. Before typing your password check the address of the website! 🌎
- Steer away from any website that promises free or cheaper Primogems. ✨ Those sites often ask you to type in your account details to "credit" your account with the Primogems or download their software to get them. This is where your account gets compromised.
- Watch out for videos or websites promoting codes that would give you thousands of Primogems (obviously fake). 💩 These often give you a valid code to trick you into going one step ahead and download their software, which then they use to hack into your computer and steal your credentials.
- Watch out for creators posting codes with links that take you directly to the redemption page. I have seen some of these links redirecting to fake redemption pages that trick you into signing-in first to redeem the code. Be very careful with these types of links, especially posted by creators that you don't know or don't follow. Normally, if you are already logged-in to the HoYoLAB website you won't need to log-in again, so if you see a log-in screen RUN! 🏃♂️🏃♀️
- Avoid using wish trackers, pity trackers, wish counters, etc. Some of these sites will ask you to execute unknown, untrustworthy code to import your wish history, potentially compromising your account or even your whole computer. 💻 You should never copy-paste a command you see in a website if you don't know the implications of this. These ones are especially dangerous. If you want to keep tabs on your wish history keep a Google Spreadsheet by yourself. It takes you 10 seconds to register your pulls and keep track of your pity.
- Avoid Wish Simulators, wish trackers, adventure trackers and such 3rd party applications on your Android device. Some of these applications (not all of them) are exploiting a known vulnerability in older versions of Android to access data from other applications: Genshin Impact, but probably other things (like Facebook or Banking Apps). Also very dangerous.
Sorry for the long list, there is just too much evil out there. 👿 These guys are worse than the Abyss Order.
If your account gets hacked you might eventually get it back, but probably won't. You certainly don't want to lose all the time and effort you put into your beloved characters and your world!. Better play it safe and don't risk it. It isn't worth it!
Lastly, a word of advice regarding 3rd-party applications. Some of these things might try to hook themselves to the Genshin Impact process (the running program) which might be detected as a cheat attempt by MiHoYo's anti-cheat software and get you banned. So even if the bad guys don't get your account you might still lose it forever! You probably have seen this happen before in Honkai Impact 3rd, so, better not to play with fate.
