Red Oni and Blue Oni

Kudos to Alumina93 for catching that first. But with this story 100% retold in this game that's probably the first truly 1 to 1 inclusion of real world lore. I mean sure you've got the Bakufu and the Tri-Commission but they were adapted to fit Teyvat's Inazuma. This? It's literally the same story.

And that makes me wonder. Thing is oni in real world Japan started long before this story was written. I think the purpose of this story was the same as what we're presented with in the game but oni used to just be unthinking monsters. The word itself used to just mean evil supernatural things. But after scientific reasoning started up in Edo Japan creative writers adapted these monsters into stories about society for example assimilation and self-sacrifice.

But Teyvat's oni are an actual species and now we're learning that the red and blue oni aren't separate creatures but that oni paint their horns based on clans. So did that happen before Chiyo's time? Or after? We're told that the oni had to choose between assimilation or exile and that Ei only accepted the ones that could live in peace with humans. Why would she do that? Because of Chiyo's attack? Or did this happen already and Chiyo was a red oni?

Both versions actually bring up even more thoughts about the state of Inazuma and Ei's personality but I'll get to those later.

So in the meantime what do you guys think?
