Commission Blocking

This builds off my previous posts!

Introduction

Commission cycles only have a specific number of each commission in them.
For example, "Project Baby" appears only 1 time in each Sumeru commission cycle.
If your Sumeru commission cycle had 30 NPC commissions in it, you have 29 other commissions than "Project Baby".
Since you can only receive 1 NPC commission a day, that means it would take at least 29 days for another "Project Baby".
However, what if you could remove a commission from the cycle without completing it?
What if we could "block" a commission from being received?
If so, every commission removed is a day faster.
This is the motivation for finding ways to "block" commissions.

Pre-Blocking

This is the most impactful, but least practical method.
Basically, the idea is to avoid unlocking commissions.
There are two ways you unlock commissions.
The first is by location.
For example, Aaru Village commissions are unlocked by activating this Teleport Waypoint.
Activating this Teleport Waypoint adds at least 4 commissions to your commission cycle.
In theory, a player could avoid activating the Waypoint until their last achievement cycle.

The second way you unlock commissions is through quests.
Completing certain quests in the game will add commissions to your cycle.
A good example is Neko from Seirai Island.
After completing the world quest "Neko Is a Cat", 7 commissions are added to the Inazuma cycle.
If you avoid completing this world quest, then your cycle will be much faster.

Of course, this isn't really feasible for a lot of players.
Teleport Waypoints are convenient, and most players (especially achievement hunters!) have completed a lot of world quests.

Blocking

So if pre-blocking is for commissions that are not unlocked yet, is there a way to block commissions that are already unlocked?
The answer is "Yes!"
Have you ever seen a message like this?

If you have, you know how annoying it can be.
Basically, Genshin Impact does not allow characters or locations to be involved in multiple quests.
The priority is different depending on the quest, but it means you must progress another quest before moving on.
However, what if we could use this to our advantage?
Commissions are also a type of quest.
In fact, the one in the dialogue, "Is This Novel Amazing?", is a commission.
Commissions, unlike other quests, are determined at the start of the day.
If the location they take place in, or the characters they use, are busy with something else, what happens?
The answer is that they are removed from the cycle for as long as they are in conflict with another quest.
I've tested this myself:
Here's the gist of it.
Previously, I limited an account to only one commission in its cycle, "Is This Novel Amazing?"
"Is This Novel Amazing?" features the NPCs Shigeru and Junkichi.
Next, I levelled it up to AR40 and unlocked Yae Miko's story quest, "The Great Narukami Offering."
I progressed the quest until the story quest was blocked by the commission.
The next day, I did not receive an NPC commission.
This means "The Great Narukami Offering" took priority.
Shigeru and Junkichi were now involved in the story quest.
The next day, I receive the commission "O Archon, Hear Me!"
This is a commission I previously removed from my cycle.
That means I moved to the 2nd cycle without completing "Is This Novel Amazing?"!
Commission blocking works!
What can we do with this knowledge though?
After all, not everyone has incomplete world quests.
Actually, there is one type of quest that is easily replayable: Hangouts!
Certain points in certain hangouts block specific commissions.
I highly recommend visiting the Adventurers' Guild for more info.

Completion

A quick side note, but blocking is not the only way to remove commissions from a cycle.
Completing commissions and world quests can remove commissions from the cycle.
For example, completing "Return to Days of Winter" takes Viktor and his quests out of the Mondstadt cycle.
This progress is mostly natural though.
Mondstadt
- Blocked?
- Tales of Winter, Return to Days of Winter
- Miracle Medicine, Recuperating From a Severe Illness, Adventurer Exam
Liyue
- Stairway to Wangshu
- Pirate Invasion, in Liyue Harbor!; Growing Pains; Ahoy! A Pirate's Growth for Ye!; Troubles Traveling Through Tributaries
- Where is the Unseen Razor? (Pre-Chasm variations)
- The Sparrow Studies the Blade, The Day the Sword Departs
Inazuma
- The Gourmet Supremos
- Bantan Sango Case File
- An Art to be Honed
Sumeru
- Problem Conversion (replaced by its variations)
- Concresoil (replaced by Other Applications of Concresoil)
- Supreme Hookshot? (replaced by The Hook's Unexpected Adventure)
