Sumeru Commission Cycle Guide
This builds off my previous posts!
Note: The cycle information is mostly unnecessary after Version 4.4.
The details on how to get each achievement still apply.
First Cycle Length: ~40
Total # of Commission Achievements: 16
1 Cycle Achievements: 9
2 Cycle Achievements: 1
3 Cycle Achievements: 5
2* Cycle Achievements: 1
Recommended blocker: Faruzan Hangout Act I, "Being a Classic Sure Is Tough!"
This should block "1,001 Cups of Coffee".
To confirm that it blocks, enter the cafe, make sure Maddah is there, then leave without talking to him.
Update: Version 3.6 has changed Garcia's Paean.
Garcia's Paean now shows up multiple times a cycle.
Update: Version 4.0 has increased the counts for Garcia's Paean: Echo of Someone.
1 Cycle Achievements
Kalimi's Fungus (Skippable)
When Wealth Comes A-Knockin' (Skippable)
Quests:
Gold Devouring and Mora Gathering x3
This one is a little tricky.
It is possible to get either of the achievements by themselves.
The Bargain Hunting (Cider) version gets you When Wealth Comes A-Knockin'.
The Fortune (Tavern) version gets you Kalimi's Fungus.
There is a specific order that can get both in one cycle though.
Basically, there are six possible routes for this commission.
Two-commission versions
- Start -> Fortune
- Start -> Total Loss
Three-commission versions
- Start -> Cider -> Fortune
- Start -> Cider -> Total Loss
- Start -> Small Profit -> Fortune
- Start -> Small Profit -> Total Loss
To get both achievements in one cycle, you must take the Start -> Cider -> Fortune route.
You can skip any of the second or third commissions to get your desired result.
Up by the Roots (Skippable)
Quests:
The Flowers That Won't Grow x3
When Flowers Bloom x1
You must complete 3 of The Flowers That Won't Grow to get the When Flowers Bloom.
To get the achievement, you need the Whopperflower variation of When Flowers Bloom.
If you do not get it, you can skip to try again.
Once you get it, chase and defeat the Whopperflower at the river shore.
Catch Me-ow if You Can! (Skippable)
Quests:
Meow... Meow meow? Meow! Meow. x3*
This is a special one.
The achievement is given once you catch the cat, not when you turn in the quest.
Due to this, you can repeatedly catch the cat and skip the commission until you've caught all 3 with the proper responses.
"It's My Job."
Quests:
Attaché in Another Land x1
Make sure you grab more than 5 mushrooms!
One Step Too Far
Quests:
Run, Hilmi, Run! x1
Let Hilmi win the race.
Doctor's Handwriting
Quests:
Good Medicine is Hard to Come By x1
Give the proper instructions to Maruf.
The Ship Has It
Quests:
Problem Conversion x1
Problem Conversion: Theory Reliability x1 or Problem Conversion: The Underpinning Factor x1
Problem Conversion: Loading Capacity x1
Grab and deliver 5 planks in Problem Conversion: Theory Reliability or Problem Conversion: The Underpinning Factor x1.
Aha! What's on the Hook?
Quests:
Supreme Hookshot? x3
Complete all 3 commissions then find Kayvan in Port Ormos for his world quest.
2 Cycle Achievements
Scholarly in Sumeru
Quests:
Akademiya Q&A x2+
There are 6 possible questions.
You receive 3 each commission.
Answer all 6 questions correctly for the achievement.
Note: Normal skipping will not work.
You cannot tell the questions you've received before you talk to Ziryab, and the commission is turned in at dialogue completion.
3 Cycle Achievements
Non-Obligatory Request (Skippable)
Quests:
Project Baby x3
There are 5 possible variations.
You will want the Fungi, Rockslide, or Nest variations.
Fungi: Strange Bead
Rockslide: Shabby Rack
Nest: Strange Tiny Hats
If you do not get a variation you need, skip the commission for another chance.
Relaxation Therapy (Skippable)
Quests:
Doctor's Orders x3
Each of the 3 patients has a secret action that can be done.
Azra: Talk to her before turning in the commission and give her Sugar.
Aftab: Talk to him before turning in the commission and give him Delicious Steak.
Gurgen: Cut the weeds in his garden for him then talk to him.
If you get a variation you already have, skip the commission for a chance at another.
The Sky is Vast; The Earth... (Skippable)
Quests:
To Measure the World x3
There are 3 main variations of this commission for this achievement.
- Defeat the monsters.
- Set up the beacons.
- Retrieve the beacons.
You cannot retrieve the beacons unless you place them first.
If you get a variation you already did, it can be skipped.
Especially if you're setting up the beacons again because this forces you to take another cycle to retrieve them.
What's the Matter? (Skippable)
Quests:
Eat and Learn x3
There are 3 variations: Minty Bean Soup, Shawarma Wrap, and Panipuri.
You can skip to get another variation.
However, you must skip before turning in the ingredient, or else you will be stuck in dialogue.
A Lingering Fragrance (Skippable)
Quests:
Desert Bloom x3
Blooming Sands: Lasting Scent x1
You will need all 3 variations of Desert Bloom (Zaytun Peach, Watering, and Cat) to unlock Blooming Sands: Lasting Scent.
This commission can be skipped for a chance at a different variation.
2* Cycle Achievements
Principia Arithmetica
Quests:
Garcia's Paean: Key Items x3-4
Garcia's Paean: Substitutes x3-4
Garcia's Paean: By Bearings x1
Garcia's Paean: Easy Peasy x4
Garcia's Paean: The Echo of Someone x3
As of Version 3.6, the counts for this commission chain have changed.
Depending on your progress before Version 3.6, you may complete this in 1 or 2 more cycles.
Version 4.0 has further increased the counts for Garcia's Paean: the Echo of Someone.
For someone new to Sumeru, this achievement will take 2 cycles.
The expected order for someone new to Sumeru is this:
Cycle 1:
Garcia's Paean: Key Items x1
(any order) Garcia's Paean: Substitutes x2 + Garcia's Paean: Key Items x1
Cycle 2:
Garcia's Paean: Key Items x1
Garcia's Paean: Substitutes x1-2
Garcia's Paean: By Bearings x1
Garcia's Paean: Easy Peasy x4
(any order) Garcia's Paean: Key Items x1 + Garcia's Paean: the Echo of Someone x3
You should receive the achievement after completing 3 Garcia's Paean: the Echo of Someone.
This also unlocks the Garcia's Paean: A Gift of Compatibility world quest.
Notes
Good Medicine Is Hard to Come By x1
Always give the correct instructions. The wrong instructions add another commission to your cycle.
Concresoil x4
Other Applications of Concresoil x1
Completing the Concresoil chain will remove it from the cycle, but adds Other Applications of Concresoil.
This is a net decrease of 3 commissions from the cycle.
Supreme Hookshot? x3
The Hook's Unexpected Adventure x1
The Supreme commissions are removed after completion.
Completing Kayvan's world quest adds The Hook's Unexpected Adventure.
This is a net decrease of 2 commissions per cycle.
Problem Conversion x1
Problem Conversion: Theory Reliability x1
These are removed after completion.
Equivalent Exchange Once More (Version: Reunion) x1
This is removed after completion.
The Great Tree: State of Growth x1
The Great Tree: Statistical State x1
These are added as you go through cycles.
State of Growth is removed after first completion, but the others remain.

The cycle count for Garcia's Paean has changed since Version 3.6.
The cycle count for Garcia's Paean: Echo of Someone has increased in Version 4.0.
