And I found myself here again all the way at the edge of Old Mondstadt.
Back then I think I chuckled at how they had a concrete dam in a medieval European town. But now that we're much further into the game I looked at what direction this was facing. Fontaine should be on the other side of this thing and from the information we've gotten they are supposed to be really technologically advanced. But compared to medieval nations really advanced is not that hard to be. From the outfits the NPCs wear it should be Industrial France so 1800s. (Funny enough because from my Genshin Germany we know that even though the setting should be medieval Germany 2 of the things I found come from the 1800s.)
While dams aren't new technology the kind of dam seen here at the edge of Old Monstadt is called a masonry arch dam and the technology for it didn't exist until the 1800s making it clearly a Fontaine structure.
Also also I had no idea about this until recently but France and Germany are related. They both come from Francia or the Kingdom of the Franks. France as we know it came from West Francia while East Francia would go on to become the Holy Roman Empire aka medieval Germany. So with the idea a couple parts of Mondstadt seem to come from the 1800s while the rest is heavily medieval maybe this is MiHoYo hinting that Fontaine and Mondstadt have close relations with each other and some of Fontaine's advanced society influenced Mondstadt's development.
