Hello everyone, this is Erieene here! As a big fan of Albedo and Dragonspine, I was quite sad that all the events related to the area were considered Limited Time Events. It’s a big shame since quite a lot of lore was given during these events and newer players will not have the opportunity to know it unless looking at the gameplay of past events.
So here I am creating an overview of the two big Dragonspine events, the lore that was given, and what I think the future events related to Albedo and Dragonspine will be! This post will be covering the first event that happened in 1.2, and how I believe it correlates to everything so far.
Hope you all have a fun time checking it out, and feel free to give your opinions in the comments! ![]()
Important Note: This post will contain spoilers for other areas and quests as I am pointing out the connections Dragonspine to the rest of Teyvat, keep that in mind when reading!
1.2 The Chalk Prince and the Dragon

1.2 Limited Event Page
This was the event page for 1.2, all surrounding the new area Dragonspine and the chief alchemist Albedo. Albedo hires the Traveler to test out a sword he had discovered beside some lost cargo as it had some unique properties that only allowed the Traveler to use it. Why? It is because the sword had highly harmful properties and Traveler’s natural purification ability allowed them to remain unaffected.

Festering Desire Description
The sword description talks of poison and how it could even corrupt a mighty dragon. We have already come across a dragon who ended up being corrupted by poison, Dvalin aka Stormterror.

Stormterror in Venti's Tale in our first meeting

Dvalin's Tear
The teardrop is the result of Dvalin’s curse after fighting Durin to protect Mondstat from him. This is also the tear that the Traveler had unknowingly purified, and we still do not know how exactly. Even the traveler is unsure how the tear became purified when showing it to Venti.
Now Albedo gives us the task of fighting enemies to help with his research on the sword. It is important to keep in mind that we fight enemies only in Dragonspine and we gather fragments that they drop. These fragments were then used to further enhance the sword.

They look quite familiar… ![]()

Crimson Agate
The description of the Crimson Agate gives us further information:
A type of crystal formed from the combination of concentrated life force with an energy unique to Dragonspine. Makes for an ideal nutrient for growing Frostbearing Trees.
If you remember the Festering Desire is described as a sword that hungers for life force and the crystal pieces, we gather from slaying the monsters are the perfect resource. This is why we had to target enemies that lived only in Dragonspine and not because the event was happening in Dragonspine.
We can also find these shards naturally around the area, breaking them and using these to get rid of the sheer cold, but there is one area where these shards are abundant.

Heart Cavern of Dragonspine
The heart cave, and if one raises their in-game volume and listen closely we can heart it beating despite the many years that have passed since Durin was defeated. Now the game does not mention that it is heart, in fact when we interact with it, we get ??? as a result. But if we grab the dragon tooth and go to the heart we get a “revitalized dragon tooth”, an item used to craft the Dragonspine weapons. Very similar to how the Festering Desire was crafted.

Revitalized Dragon Tooth
A Dragontooth infused with vitality. Just its luster and texture are enough to make one uneasy…
After we finish the first part of the event we go back to Albedo and tell him how we accomplished his task. Albedo then gives us further information about the sword and Dragonspine itself. We are told that the sword was once made by a legendary blacksmith who used the scales, teeth, and bones of the Black Dragon Durin to craft it. As a result, it became a magical sword that has the unique properties of Durin and his corrosive poison. The blacksmith could not handle the power of the poison, and disappeared into the unknown, leaving the sword behind. Hence the reason why the sword has a terrible “curse” placed upon it, and why only the Traveler with their natural purification abilities can use it.
The crafting process should sound familiar because this is how all Dragonspine weapons are created! Using the parts of the dragon which makes the description of the revitalized dragon tooth more sense. Remember how it talks about how it holds an energy that makes others uneasy? ![]()
Durin the Black Dragon
Durin was artificially created by the alchemist named Rhinedottir, also known as Gold, who hails from Khaeneri’ah. Considered one of her miraculous creations and was rather destructive even if unintentionally. Durin in fact held no hostility towards Dialin or the Anemo Archon but rather wished to become friends, but his unintentional destruction was what caused him to be slain. Due to how strong his venom was, he was intentionally placed on Dragonspine (previously known as Vindagnyr) because of its unique properties.

The Fatui’s Interest
Throughout the entire time of the event, we find out that the Fatui are interested in the sword as well.

Throughout our time of playing the main story that the Fatui are collecting items related to the archons for the Tsarista, most notably the Gnosis. Their interest in the sword is due to Durin’s remains being integrated into it, and especially because the Black Dragon’s power was comparable to the Anemo Archon Barbatos. For the Fatui the sword was a weapon that was equivalent to the Archon’s power which would make their goal of collecting all the Gnosis all the easier.
We end up fighting against them, and the Festering Desire ends up going through an upgrade after battling them. Even Albedo notices this change and makes a comment about it.

Festering Desire Evolution
For my webtoon readers out there, we know that the Fatui members, specifically the Harbinger Dottore have been doing some experiments. Collei was one of the unfortunate people who was experimented on, and she was given the ability to use the residue of fallen Archons. It is not confirmed, but we can make some assumption that all members of the Fatui were given something similar. The Festering Desire absorbed this energy and went through an evolution of sorts. What happens next with the sword is what creates the last act of the limited event and ties into the next limited event of Dragonspine.
The Revival of the Cryo Regisvine

This is the dead Cryo Regisvine that was brought back to life due to the pure life energy that the sword was holding. During the time the sword was knocked to the ground some of the energy leaked out and was absorbed by the flower. As a result, the Cryo Regisvine gained immense regeneration abilities and it took using the Crimson Agate shards to subdue it. Remember that using the shard when attacking increased our damage greatly.

Now this is a subtle detail that can be missed if one was looking for it. On the limited event page, we can see the art of the Cryo Regisvine.

Notice how it has some redness incorporated into the flower as a result of absorbing the energy? It’s not like the other regisvines we have encountered, and this uniqueness comes into play for the next Dragonspine Event that occurs. ![]()
Albedo’s connection to Dragonspine
Once we finished the event completely, we are allowed to keep the sword as we helped Albedo finish his experiment. Once the traveler leaves, we receive a cutscene of what Albedo has discovered during his time on Dragonspine and with our assistance.

We find out that the one who taught Albedo alchemy was the alchemist Rhinedottir who also created Durin. In some form the two are related, but how so it is not clear just yet.
Sal Vindagnyr and the Sky Frost Nail
Before Durin’s arrival and the land becoming Dragonspine, it once held a kingdom called. We can find remnants of this ancient civilization in the area Entombed City – Ancient Palace. Where we can find information relating to this ancient civilization from the artifact domain and the three boxes that unlock the treasure room where the Snow Tombed Starsilver can be found.

Princess, Priest, and Scribe Box
The description of the boxes tells us the story of the civilization and how one day a large “Nail” came down from the heavens. An unimaginable cold covered the land and as the nail broke into 3 parts, one of the pieces destroyed the leyline tree used by the kingdom. This resulted in everyone in the kingdom dying due to the large snowstorms that the nail brought and turning the land into a frozen wasteland. The lush greenery and crops were buried under snow, and the sun was obscured by thick clouds. The murals created by the princess found in the treasure room depict the story of the disaster.
Frostbearing Tree
In Dragonspine we come across a tree upon an entrance, the crimson shard nearby we thaw it out and find out if we give the tree enough Crimson Agates the tree will continue to grow.

As the tree grows more powerful its roots spread about and interact with the leylines, so we can assume that this was the tree mentioned in the story of the ancient civilization.
Princess’ Murals of the Civilization’s Ruin:

The kingdom being believers of Celestia, the palace above the triangle represents Celestia. The golden line descending on the triangle is the Sky Frost Nail descending into the kingdom.

The second mural depicts the snowstorms brought upon by the nail, and how Celestia brought ruin upon the land.
There are words inscribed onto the murals in Latin, and when translated it states:
1st Mural: Angels help the believers / the faithful
2nd Mural: Listen, be silent / you will learn
Before entering the room there are further words written: You fear / you respect
The tale of Sal Vindagnyr is one of warning, where if one did not be faithful to be Celestia then a punishment is given. The hero who received the Snow Tombed Starsilver came back to the kingdom to find ruin. They curse Celestia and hope the “nation without gods” can stand against the world before traveling to old Mondstat to become one of the old Aristocrats. The nation that is being referred to is no doubt Khaeneri’ah.
From this, we can reach two conclusions. Celestia is not a forgiving place if one strays from the gods, and the Sky Frost Nail is the reason for leyline irregularities on Dragonspine. Which is why we have no leyline outcrops in Dragonspine. (This is a very important piece of information to keep in mind)
Other locations of similar ruins:

Credit to the pictures in the bottom left corner of the image
Looking over the images we see some similar depictions from what was viewed in Dragonspine. There is even a drawing of Celestia above everything else, worshiping from a nation, and then a calamity that has occurred. Where are these murals placed? Tsurumi Island in Inazuma is a place that has been long abandoned and shrouded in mystery.
The connection between the Frost Nail and Durin’s Venom
We are aware that Durin’s poison has terrible effects on others due to Davlin and the Blacksmith. It causes madness and rage, tormenting those affected. This should sound familiar because, after the Archon War, the resentment of the gods seeped into the ground and cause mutations to occur in the plants, monsters, and leylines. This was called “miasma” and the Geo Archon summoned the Yakshas to handle the issue for Liyue. This was shown when we first learn about the Yakshas and their duties to the Geo Archon.
Durin was purposely placed on Vindagnyr due to the properties of the Sky Frost Nail that suppressed the leylines, and so could suppress the poison. This prevented the poison from leaking out elsewhere into Mondstat and why the area is different from everywhere else.
Other Sky Frost Nails Locations
Now if you remember what the Sky Frost Nail does, and its effects we can deduce the other locations of the Sky Frost Nail. There is one in the Chasm, as can be seen by reaching the very end of the area.

Chasm Sky Frost Nail
But we can also tell that there was another Sky Frost Nail in Teyvat, even though it is no longer visible. The third location is Tsurumi Island, and the reason we can say it is there it is because of the leyline irregularities that occur there as well as the murals. In three locations, all of them have experienced some form of calamity, and all of them are related to Celestia in some way. The more we find out about Celestia, the less it seems like they are as peaceful as they say they are. As well as Khaeneri’ah not being the first nation to be destroyed by Celestia. Rather Khaeneri’ah is the Nation that has survivors after the calamity and so can enact revenge for the destruction of their nation.![]()
Hope you all enjoyed the compilation of information; I did my best to be as accurate as possible. I have not explored the latest area, and so the lore there was not included in this post because of that. Keep in mind that this post is using the information we know of Dragonspine, and how I believe that it hints towards the rest of what will happen in Teyvat.
My next Dragonspine post will be covering 2.3 Shadow Amidst the Snowstorms which is a direct sequel to the events of 1.2 The Chalk Prince and the Dragon.
If anyone wishes to discuss with me over lore, I do stream on Twitch: Twitch
Hope you all have a wonderful day! ![]()
