Calling the Kettle Black

On this side of the world the information space is regarded in a certain way and when parties try to limit that space we have a word for it that starts with a c. That word tends to be thrown around at certain people, like the people that founded Mihoyo for instance.

But as it turns out limiting information is something everybody in the world does. Usually it's for a few specific reasons: Preventing destructive information from influencing people who are unaware of its damaging effects, barring things that could negatively distract people who are easily swayed, also preventing undesirable information that hinders an agenda. While that place Mihoyo's from tends to do the first two for example blocking adult websites and promoted targeted media its actually that last one that becomes a problem. And that's what happens here. So yes it is definitely annoying when certain words aren't allowed or are turned into asterisks here on Hoyolab but at least you don't run the risk of cancel culture attacking you for having an opinion that goes against the grain.

Yes that picture above is an example of that that happened to me recently on reddit. It's nothing big. The same topic is actually still up without a problem on another subredditthat's actually more prone to attacking topics.

This further shows that the topic had been "c worded" without just cause. They claimed it was because of a certain image I linked in the middle of my giant topic. But if you do a quick Google for Focalors the Hydro Archon it literally shows up before you even need to scroll. And the subreddit that decided it was such a problem that it had to take down the whole topic because of that one link? Genshin Lore so you can bet every single person reading has come across this when they themselves Googled Focalors lol. Pretty hard to discuss lore if you never look up any basic information.

And it wouldn't be the first time either. (The first time would be my theory on Yae Miko.) But this time that it happened made me think about this topic so I thought I'd share.

Btw this does not mean I've forgiven Hoyolab for it's actual sleights against Hoyoverse players. That has yet to be corrected. But I believe in telling it like it is and so far I haven't encountered on Hoyolab a case where just talking about facts that aren't popular will limit your presence in the information space. (In fact at times it feels like the opposite is true.) But right now they've got their hands full with the consequences anyway.

And you know that makes me want to bring up that old subject again too. So the "c word" thing, putting limits on what we can and can't talk about? When it comes to Mihoyo that topic usually comes up in one specific way.

I think this kind of thing feeds off the misrepresented information from articles like this. You guys know how Venti is still very much in the game? Yeah funny how the people still talking about this like it's a real thing don't mention that when they continue making their baseless accusations. What else don't they consider? How about

this character. Explain this character. I mean personally Nicole feels like Mihoyo's personal reaction to these guys. And I used to go with a different character. When I pointed her out before, the response I'd get was that they just hadn't gotten around to changing her and they would eventually. It's been over a year since then. She's appeared in events since then and in this same outfit and again I remind everybody she was playable since Genshin's launch. Like I said, around here information gets limited because it can disprove ideas that are popularly believed but patently false.

But I actually also recently found exactly why Nicole and Rosaria can simultaneously exist and it doesn't involve that "c" word. It turns out it's just ESRB. Imagine if you will your kid brother who's only in primary school. You think your parents would want them playing GTA? The Witcher? God of War? Probably not. Those games have an M Rating and are suitable for ages 17+. I actually remember when I was a kid stores wouldn't even sell you an M Rated game unless you were 17+ or with your parent. Genshin as it turns out has a local "ESRB" of 12+. That's pretty much an E Rating. Imagine being upset about the Rosaria thing but on Princess Zelda or Princess Peach. Now you see how ridiculous it is? Zenless Zone Zero on the other hand has a 18+ rating. That's an M. Hence jiggle physics on Nicole.

It's that simple.
