You know the first year of Genshin things went a little differently. We only had 2 regions. And we only got a single addition to one of those regions that being Dragonspine.
Going off of that early trend I assumed the game would always progress like that. Each new region would launch then some time later we'd get a single add-on region to expand on its story. Dragonspine was for Mondstadt and the Chasm would be for Liyue. When Inazuma released and we had already gotten teased about 6 islands I chocked up the missing islands to the Archon Quest.
But then we kept getting batches. Tsurumi didn't release with v2.1 and instead we got it in v2.2. But even that didn't stop it and we now have Enkanomiya in v2.4. So what if this is the actual trend?
If that's the case this game could go on for much longer than previously predicted. We thought we were done with Mondstadt and we were just waiting on the Chasm for Liyue. But now maybe there's going to be plenty of new add-ons in the future and they could even be distributed intermittently throughout all the future patches.
For example we could get Old Mondstadt and the storm blocking the entrance below where we fight Dvalin could clear up. Thanks to Moonchase we know Archons don't actually die so even Decarabian might just be in some depowered state. Would he have become good? Would he be our guide when we explore Old Mondstadt? Or would he still be tyrannical and now embittered and he needs us in Old Mondstadt to help him recover his power where he'll become a weekly boss?
I had a theory about the Chasm collapsing related to the yakshas but what if we don't even need it for that and another part of Liyue opens up for that purpose? Not to mention we already know a few Archons were buried all over Liyue. Osial was able to come back for a short while and now there's also the still alive Beisht. The yakshas were tasked with keeping those things under control but now there's only Xiao. So in the future they could easily explore something where another Archon breaks free from Morax and attacks. They could even play it up with that whole erosion thing for sympathy points.
If each new region can be released only to have more pieces added to it later on then this game is super future-proofed. It could end up really up to MiHoYo when to pull the plug and give us the prize fight at the end. OR they could give us the ending but that ending leaves Teyvat free from the Heavenly Principles so suddenly all these new things can be explored and boom more areas.
