Comparing similar characters across these games. *Only the officially released ones.
Hello Captains, Trailblazers, and Travellers! Today I have a post for you all comparing all the similar characters across Hoyoverse's three big games, Genshin Impact, Honkai Impact 3rd, and Honkai Star Rail. I wanted to make this to show any players that don't play all 3 games and are curious about the character's similarities and differences to each game they are in. I won't go too in-depth because I will make a separate post for some of them, comparing the two in more detail. So, let's take a look at the characters!
Unknown God (GI) - Kiana Kaslana/ Herrscher of Void (HI3rd)
I MISS YOU KIANA, OUR DEAR TUNA
The Unknown God hasn't really appeared much in Genshin Impact apart from the beginning, but she has the exact same Japanese Voice Actor as Kiana and the Herrscher of Void along with looking pretty similar too. I remember the Unknown God was able to send the Traveller to a whole other place in the beginning of the game, and the Herrscher of Void has powers that involve teleportation between different universes and going in and out of imaginary spaces.
Raiden Ei/ Raiden Shogun (GI) - Raiden Mei (HI3rd)
If your name is Raiden, you are automatically hot
The Raiden's from both games are very popular among Travellers and Captains. They both wield lightning, use swords (Ei is a spear user but can also use a sword for her burst), and are pretty powerful and amazing fighters. Raiden Ei is the Archon who rules over Inazuma and is a very strong fighter. Raiden Mei is known as the Herrscher of Thunder (and now Origin) who uses a sword very well and was a model student back when she went to St. Freya.
Extra: Dr. MEI
Dr. MEI is basically Mei but from the previous era (everyone died and previous era was over 50000 years ago) so she is already dead but she did play a very important part in the main story. She was a scientist that tried to save the world before it ended.
Yae Miko (GI) - Yae Sakura (HI3rd)
Pink hair + voiced by Ayaneru = best character
The Yae's in both games have two very different personalities. Yae Miko has a fox-like personality who loves to tease people and play with others. Yae Sakura is mature and a very reliable person who also used to be an assassin. The only things that make them similar is their appearance, and that they are both voiced by Sakura Ayane. They also have different ears, Miko has fox ears and Sakura has bunny ears. I really like how different they are in both games, but Ayaneru was able to voice-act them perfectly to match their personalities. Hats off to Ratana too for doing her English voice in Genshin cause I sometimes switch to English just to hear her as Yae Miko.
Extra: Yae Kasumi and Yae Sakura (Current Era vs Previous Era)
So in HI3rd there is something called the Captainverse where there is a WHOLE story that connects some of the limited event stories and Sakura is known as Kasumi here. Also, there are two different Sakura’s, and the one shown in the pic above is Sakura from the Previous Era just like Dr. MEI. The Sakura of the Current Era (who is also dead) has a very similar story to Previous Era Sakura, they both lost their sisters and died for the sake of others. But anyways compared to Yae Miko, all three Yae stories in HI3rd are VERY sad and depressing.
Venti (GI) - Wendy (HI3rd)

Venti and Wendy are very similar in appearance but are completely different when we look at their personalities and experiences. Venti is the Anemo Archon who resides in Mondstat. He is a bard who loves DRINKING and he is a very laid-back and carefree character compared to the other Archons. Wendy on the other hand was an A-Rank Valkyrie who had to retire due to her legs being paralyzed (a dangerous gem was placed in her leg by Schicksal). She ended up turning into the Herrscher of Wind and attacked the protagonists because of her blind hatred for the people who caused her to become paralyzed. Before though, she was a nice girl and Theresa even praised her skills when she was a Valkyrie.
Nahida (GI) - Theresa Apocalypse (HI3rd)
leaders that look like children but are actually older than they look
Nahida is the Dendro Archon and Theresa is the Overseer of Schicksal. They both look very young but in fact they are older than they look. Nahida is 500 years old but looks like she is 9 years old, and Theresa looks like she is 13 but is actually about 54 in-game (She is I looked it up I'm shocked too). They can be very mature and smart when it comes to decision-making and certain situations, but there are times when they act as they look. I found it funny when Nahida said dookie during the Archon quest and Theresa likes to take advantage of her child-like appearance (but sometimes she hates when people mistake her for a child).
They also will do anything they can to help others and the people they rule/look over, even if it could put their own life in grave danger (thank you commenter for this important point!).
Extra: Kongming
Just like Yae Kasumi, Kongming is a very important character in the Captainverse. I don't know much about the Captainverse yet but I know that Kongming dies a lot and you can get very sad each time you play the events.
Al Haitham (GI) - Su (HI3rd)
"Tell me the differences between these 2 pics." Me: "They're the same pic?"
These two are very interesting to compare and I didn’t even see the similarities until I saw someone mention how they look alike when Al Haitham first came out. Su is one of the 13 Flame Chasers and was known as a doctor and scientist. He is very calm, collected, and cared a lot for the people around him including his patients. Al Haitham is also very calm and extremely smart but is seen (especially when we first meet him) mostly working by himself and isn’t as open about looking out for others because of his personality. They also have similar appearances where part of their gray hair has a green highlight but Su’s hair is VERY much longer than Al Haitham’s.
Kirara (GI) - Pardofelis (HI3rd)
cat girls = best girls
These two, if you can’t tell, are basically catgirls. Kirara is a nekomata (which is a youkai in Inazuma) and she is a delivery girl who delivers packages for Komaniya Express. She is very serious when it comes to her deliveries and loves her job. Pardofelis kinda ‘became’ a cat-person after an experiment and the side effects gave her cat ears and a tail. She may not deliver goods like Kirara but she is kinda like a merchant who buys and sells things (but she steals people's things too and sells them :D) They are both lively and VERY cute (I mean who doesn’t love characters based off of cats?) Kirara assures that there is no destination that she can’t deliver to and Pardofelis assures that there isn’t anything that she doesn’t sell or can’t get her hands on!
Bronya Zaychik (HI3rd) - Bronya Rand (HSR)
Multi-verse? more like Bronya-verse. Drills + gray hair = Bronya
I love Bronya in Honkai Impact 3rd and now I love Bronya in Honkai Star Rail. They may be from two different universes and have slightly different personalities, but I can tell that they are very similar when it comes to ideals. They were both adopted by Cocolia at very young ages, and they both went against Cocolia for good reasons and escaped her influence because they didn't agree with things that Cocolia did. I like how HoYoverse gives her different hairstyles but keeps her signature hair drills since it is a signature Bronya detail.
Extra: Prometheus
Prometheus is a character in HI3rd and just like Dr. Mei she is from the previous era and is actually an AI that looks exactly like Bronya. Prometheus is actually very funny even though she is serious most of the time. She is a very important character in the main story currently.
Haxxer Bunny/ Bronie (HI3rd) - Silver Wolf (HSR)

So Bronie, for those who don't know, is basically an 'alternate universe' version of Bronya in HI3rd (Silver Wolf played Bronie in her character trailer when it showed her playing HI3rd!). I don't know much about Silver Wolf yet but I'm guessing she is the same case too (take this with a grain of salt tho cause I heard people saying Silver Wolf and Bronya Rand are from the same universe, so idk). They are both master hackers and can hack into anything. We will learn more about Silver Wolf soon in the main storyline so I'm excited to learn more about her.
Murata Himeko (HI3rd) - Himeko (HSR)
Don't kill Himeko in HSR HoYoverse pls. As a Captain that would hurt me
I know all captains were happy when they saw that our dear Himeko was coming back in Honkai Star Rail. I'm gonna be honest and say that I actually CRIED when Himeko appeared in-game. As a captain of HI3rd, I missed Himeko a lot and really missed seeing her in the game. I'm happy that I can see her again in HSR and the two have pretty similar personalities, they are caring, look after those close to them, and are very good leaders. The only difference I can really think of is that Himeko (HSR) loves Coffee, and Himeko (HI3rd) loves alcohol. Also, whoever designed Himeko in HSR, THANK YOU, SHE IS SO PRETTY AND ONE OF MY FAVOURITE DESIGNS IN THE GAME.
Seele Vollerei and Seele/ Veliona (HI3rd) - Seele (HSR)
How do u pronounce Seele? 'Seal' or 'Zel-eh' or 'Zel-uh'? I switch between all...
I loved how HoYoverse imported Seele from Honkai Impact 3rd to Honkai Star Rail. Seele Vollerei or the blue Seele is the nicest and shyest girl in HI3rd. She loves children, is very caring, and loves to help people. Veliona or red Seele on the other hand is the complete opposite. She loves to see certain people suffer, is a tsundere, only really cares for the other Seele, and likes to resort to violence to solve problems. I think Seele from HSR is basically a mixture of these two (maybe 30% blue Seele and 70% red Seele). Seele (HSR) likes to help people and is caring like blue Seele and is a kinda tsundere like red Seele. Her hair is also purple which is a mixture of both Seele's hair in HI3rd.
Li Sushang (HI3rd) - Sushang (HSR)
Seo Soojin! Li Sushang!
It's very interesting to compare both Sushang from HI3rd and Honkai Star Rail. Li Sushang (HI3rd) is one of Schick***&#*9;s strongest fighters at only 15 years old (she was asleep for 500-ish years tho, so I guess she is about 515-ish now?) and Sushang (HSR) is a young Cloud Knight. From when they were young they both learned how to fight with a sword. One thing I think is a little different from the two Sushangs is probably how they fight and carry themselves? I don't know how to explain it but I noticed from their fighting style in both games that Sushang (HSR) has a more laidback(I think that's the word?) fighting style and Li Sushang (HI3rd) has a more strict and refined fighting style.
Otto Apocalypse/ Void Archives (HI3rd) - Luocha (HSR)
Never thought I would see this mans face again...
So Otto Apocalypse is one of the main Antagonists in HI3rd, and Void Archives on the other hand is also one of the antagonists and basically took one of Otto's Soulium avatars (or in other words one of his clones) to borrow and changed its appearance to his liking, which is why they look so similar. After meeting Luocha briefly, he seems like a polite travelling merchant and after remembering what Otto has done, I am hoping Luocha doesn't have any evil intentions haha we'll see in the next version releasing soon.
Natasha 'Raven' Cioara (HI3rd) - Natasha (HSR)
A mercenary and a doctor. Natasha in two different fonts.
Compared to the other characters from HI3rd, Natasha has a completely different voice actor and is VERY different in HSR. In HI3rd, Natasha Cioara AKA 'Raven' is a mercenary and works for an organization that the protagonists fight against in the game. Natasha in HSR is the leader of Wildfire, a resistance group in the Underworld and is a doctor too working everyday to help people in need. One thing they actually have in common is that they helped children in some way. Raven helped a bunch of kids who lost their homes and/or parents after a tragedy occurred that destroyed their city, making them a shelter and safe place for them to live, and Natasha used to run an orphanage in a city and still looks after the kids in the area (if I remember correctly pls correct me if I'm wrong). They also had pretty sad stories relating to their brothers (Raven's biological brother, and Natasha's non-blood-related brother) involving separation and the two trying to find them for different reasons.
Cocolia (HI3rd) - Cocolia Rand (HSR)
Where is Cocolia in HI3rd get her outta jail, wait no leave her there just let me see her
Cocolia in both games are VERY similar when it comes to their ideals and how they want to run things. Cocolia (HI3rd) owned an Orphanage called Cocolia Orphanage, she took care of children who didn't have a home or anywhere to go after a disaster hit Russia. But, Cocolia did things that many people, even Bronya, her adoptive daughter, wouldn't forgive her and has said how much she disapproves of the things she has done. Cocolia (HSR) adopted Bronya and took her under her wing, so she can be the next Supreme Guardian. Bronya came to love Cocolia as her own mother. But Cocolia hid many things and did many questionable things, causing her daughter to question her mothers actions. In the end, both Bronya's knew Cocolia did good things, but there were also many things that they saw as wrong so they broke free from their mother/matushka influence and went down their own paths.
Kafka (HI3rd) - Kafka (HSR)
I would get into bed with a Stellaron Hunter, if her name's Kafka
So in Honkai Impact 3rd, Kafka isn't really a playable character, she is a stigmata (which is what we put on characters to make them stronger so she was just equipment) But in Honkai Star Rail, they decided to make her playable in this universe. I love her personality and her design in HSR A LOT. She is still a very mysterious character to us and we will be seeing way more of her in the near future.
Welt Yang (HI3rd and HSR)
You say Daddy's hoooome, OH home for MEH
So the Welt Yang that appears in both HI3rd and HSR are technically the same people. I'm not gonna go too deep into it (I'll save that for another post) but in HI3rd world Welt found out about a parallel universe that had someone similar to Himeko in HI3rd (which is Himeko from HSR universe) and because of guilt and some regret he had involved around her and his nature of wanting to save people and help others, he decided to travel to the world of HSR with Void Archives. He ended up leaving his wife (her name is Tesla and she is in his splash art), his son, and others in HI3rd to try and save the world again but in a different universe.
Yanqing (HSR and HI3rd)
YANQING?!?!?!
I completely forgot about Yanqing in the world of HI3rd because I haven’t gotten the chance to read the Seven Swords visual novel so thank you to the person who reminded me! Yes, Yanqing is also in the world of HI3rd but is a very minor character so not many Captains know about him (He didn’t even appear in-game and was only mentioned and voiced very briefly). According to the Honkai Impact 3rd Archives Wiki: “He has a crazy attitude, usually does whatever he wants, he does things rather unusually. He's been very famous for the past 20 years.” and he “goes around picking fights with opponents he think may be worthy.” I don’t know much about Yanqing (HSR) yet but obviously compared to Yanqing (HI3rd) he is much younger and seems like an energetic swordsman. He also apparently loves swords.

Honkai Impact 3rd's Genshin Impact Crossover Event with Fischl, Keqing, and Paimon!
BRING THIS EVENT BACK HOYOVERSE I NEED TO PLAY IT PLS IM BEGGING
Okay, so there was an event in Honkai Impact 3rd where there was a crossover involving Fischl, Keqing, and even Paimon! I wasn't a Captain when this event happened, so I don't really know many details about this event, but apparently, Keqing was playable for a limited time and Fischl is officially a playable character who is still a very good support in the game. Oh, and Theresa wore Klee's outfit in the event, and it was even added as an outfit for one of her battlesuits in-game.
Kevin Kaslana (HI3rd) - Caelus (HSR Male MC)
Someone in the comments below gave me this idea so thank you for pointing out how Caelus is a little bit like a playable Kevin haha. He has a baseball bat, and weapon similar to Judgment of Shamash (Their haircuts are kinda similar too just different colour). Caelus and Stelle are now capable of being Kaslana's.
And that's it everyone! Like I said at the start, I'm planning to make more in-depth character analyzing posts for certain characters to compare their history and personality (I'm currently working on Bronya and Cocolia's as one post!). I just wanted to quickly post this for those who want to take a quick look at similar characters.
Honkai Impact 3rd really is a powerhouse, with characters from the game appearing in the worlds of Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail. I hope they continue adding characters from other games because it is really fun and interesting comparing them to each game they are part of.
