[Analysis] ER VS Attack % for Mona | Best Artifact and Weapon for Mona (DPS)

From Nable's Guides

Intro:

Mona, one of the key unit for those enormous whale numbers, decides to knock on my door while I tried to bring Ganyu home (At least my Hu Tao is a guaranteed now).

Luckily, catalyst is my favourite weapon, so I'll definitely be using her as a DPS after I'm done with Ningguang.

I think that when reading Mona, one question seems to be the most important: Is ER% better than attack%?

Well, let's find out!

P.S. ER means Energy Recharge. Thank you to Thirtum for reminding me to add this.

What's in this analysis?

1. Comparison between 8 different weapons:

- Favonius Codex.

• Passive will be considered.

- Solar Pearl.

• Normal attack damage will be calculated with +10% damage (Because you can only have the 20% bonus for 6 seconds, while her skill has 12 seconds CD), and skill and burst will have +20%.

- The Widsith.

• The Widsith has 3 different effects. I will consider the active effect to be +48% elemental damage, which will be applied as +16% damage in the calculation, as it is only active for 10 seconds every 30 seconds.

- Eye of Perception.

- Lost Prayer of Sacred Winds (5★).

• I tested how the stack works on Lost Prayer, and found that it is not the most practical, or the easiest to stack. You need 20 seconds of field time for full stack, and the effect disappear when you switch her out.

So putting this into consideration, the calculations below will assume Lost Prayer has 2 stacks, giving Mona +16% elemental damage bonus.

- Skyward Atlas (5★).

• I do not own this to test it out, so please let me know if I calculate the passive incorrectly!

The +12% damage passive is normally included. Thanks to WanderingHex for reminding me to mention this.

2. Comparison between 4 different artifact builds:

- 2-Heart of Depths (Hydro) + 2-Noblesse.

- 4-Heart of Depths.

Main stat:

• Attack/Hydro/Crit.

• ER/Hydro/Crit.

3. Vaporize calculation for burst.

This will include:

- All 3 Widsith effect.

- Sacrificial Fragments.

- Mappa Mare.

• 8% Elemental Damage bonus will be active on the calculation.

Assumptions:

The calculations below will follow the following assumptions:

1. Mona is lv90.

2. The enemy is one lv80 hilichurl.

3. Talent lv6, C0.

4. All hits crit. The crit goal will be 60%, anything above that will be considered an "overflow".

5. I will be considering ER this time, so I will be using a DPS (Damage per Second) approach again.

Results:

Stat overview:

"Burst CD" represents the estimated amount of time needed to regain your burst back.

P.S. Favonius Codex on ER%/Hydro/Crit will have Attack% as substat instead of ER%.

Damage overview (2-Heart of Depths + 2-Noblesse):

Simulation Result:

Note:

Normal: (1-hit to 4-hit + Charged)/4.

Skill: (4 x Skill DoT + Skill Explosion)/12.

Burst: Bubble Damage/Burst CD.

Damage overview (4-Heart of Depths):

Simulation Result:

Note:

Normal: (1-hit to 4-hit + Charged)/4.

Skill: (4 x Skill DoT + Skill Explosion)/12.

Burst: Bubble Damage/Burst CD.

Vaporize Simulation:

Multiplier for Mappa Mare and Sacrificial:

The rest of the weapon will have 0 EM, giving it a x2 multiplier.

Simulation Result:

P.S. Burst/s: Burst/Burst CD

Lost Prayer and The Widsith on the calculation above have no passive active.

This is the calculation for each Widsith passive:

Huge difference, but ensuring that you have Widsith's passive active isn't that practical on the field.

Conclusion:

1. 4-Heart of Depths is better for DPS build.

2. Atk% is better than ER%, both for DPS or Burst build.

3. Best weapon for Mona:

- Skyward Atlas (5★)

- Lost Prayer (5★)

- Widsith (Situational)

- Solar Pearl

- Eye of Perception

4. EM is not that good even on vaporize comp.

Personal Opinion:

I'm not at all surprised that Attack% is better for DPS build, but I didn't expect Attack% to be on-par with ER on burst build.

So, I'd say Attack% is the way to go for Mona, and ER can be stacked from substat.

With 32% ER from her ascension, she has 132% default ER, and 26% Hydro Bonus. I think it's super neat and makes her easy to build.
