The Impending Flood

-of players leaving MiHoYo that is.

Hi guys. Last time I talked about that horrible anniversary we all knew was coming.

And I said we needed to wait a little longer to get the stats about September. They're here.

And it's a big oof for MiHoYo. Keep it up guys. The longer you let the problems fester the longer these red figures will continue. Since Genshin is the world's most expensive game I wonder how long you guys can keep producing it at this rate?

Maybe it's time to regroup and restrategize. Just a suggestion.

Here's to address all of the cut and paste replies:

1. Brought to my attention by one of the thought out replies, this game is now 3 years old. Most of the whales have spent the money they were going to spend and have most if not all the characters. Even a f2p like myself has most of the characters. A healthy game values growth to offset this so they can keep bringing in new paying players who still have all their spending potential left. Expecting MiHoYo to be satisfied with a tiny amount of old paying players to justify continuing to produce this costly game is delusional.

2. Stop this nonsense bias between whales and f2p players. We're all fans of this game. It doesn't matter if you pay or you just support this game both sides are valuable. Stop saying f2p are just riding off the financing of whales and stop saying whales pay to offset their lack of skill. We should be united as a playerbase and strive to keep our game going strong.

3. Just because the game is still making money or that it's big enough to handle recent losses doesn't mean it shouldn't still address the problem so it won't continue to make less money or lose players. This goes along with the people that claim that MiHoYo should give more rewards because they made so much profits on Genshin already. No business becomes successful by breaking even. They do so by reaping as much profit as they can so they can then invest those profits into bigger and better ventures. (because there's risk to those investments) Do you think we'd have Star Rail or Zenless in the works with a Genshin that was just making enough to get by? No it was from those monumental earnings that they were able to give us more of their quality of games. As fans we should hope to keep that going because there are tons more games their devs can come up with if their execs shape up.

4. To the dook dooks that used the c&p replies used against haters on me, go to my profile page first then come back and tell me I'm a hater. Don't live your lives on auto-pilot.

4a. Also the dook dooks that used the "why are you still playing then?" argument. It's one thing to tell that to the haters. They offer nothing besides baseless accusations against the game. But constructive criticism shouldn't be cast aside without a thought. This game tries its best to teach things like history and culture. Maybe honor that by using your brains in your daily lives. A minute of thought would have prevented you from being silly like this and leaving you wide open to justified ridicule.

Ok now for the replies that actually put some brain juice into it:

1. Games do run their course once all their content is exhausted. That hasn't happened to Genshin yet though so having players leave now isn't natural and isn't good. The reason players are leaving has nothing to do with burnout over the game itself as I pointed out in the video but rather the kind of content MiHoYo is producing and how they are managing the game. Stuff like "QOL" upgrades like they did for the Daily Commissions is a slap in the face. Either do your commissions or spend even longer hunting down chests or doing quests. All of which run out so you'll be back to doing the commissions soon enough. An alternative like the highly praised Labyrinth Warriors that has never made a comeback would reengage players and then the tired old commission system could be phased out.

2. A game company's own games shouldn't compete with each other. Saying Genshin's only losing profits because of other MiHoYo games is ignorant to how game companies operate. Nintendo doesn't lose Mario players to Zelda or Metroid. They gain more from new Zelda and Metroid players and vice versa. They become Nintendo players. It's bad in its own right if MiHoYo's losing players from one game to another as it's not a net gain in players. (I use Nintendo as an example many times btw including the video. When you've been around since physical card games back in 1889 other companies should take notes.)

3. Going along that line you shouldn't be offsetting losses on one game with another game either. That's like paying off your credit card with another card. All games come with a production cost. If Genshin needs to pull Star Rail's profits to make ends meet then Star Rail will sink even further with the burden of needing to make enough money to keep both games running. And since Genshin's profits were used to invest in Star Rail to begin with not to mention Zenless that's really poor accounting. I'm not saying that never happens but that's not a good sign for the company and should raise all the red flags. You want each property to make its own profits so the company has even more to invest.

4. They don't care. Yes but that's the point. Either they wake up and care or their game not to mention their company will eventually die. It won't be tomorrow or the next day but Natlan is a year away. Tick tock.
