HELLO. In this post, I would like to teach you guys how to pronounce Liyue names. (^^) b
Maybe it's just me but I noticed lots of people making fun of Liyue names recently such as Schongli and Xingqui and so on, and that's basically just mocking Chinese culture. [emoji]
I know there are no audio examples and Imma try my best to write them out phonetically but if you'd like to hear it live, you can go to @qingxinflowers on TikTok (and scroll to the bottom to the video titled Liyue Name Pronounciations).
I'll also put a fun fact for each of them because the names actually have pretty cool meanings in Chinese. ;D
璃月 Liyue (Lí yuè)
[ Lee yuee-eh ]
Fun fact: 璃 means Lapis in Chinese and Lapis means stone in Latin. 月 means moon so it technically translates to Stone Moon as a whole.
钟离 Zhongli (Zhōng lí)
[ Jong lee ]
Fun fact: 钟 means clock and 离 means leave. In Chinese culture, clocks usually symbolize running out of time. *cries in 6000 year old pee paw*

[ Nying gwuang ]
Fun fact: 凝 means solidify and 光 means light/ ray. Probably referring to how Ningguang will unite Liyue's people and be the light/ guide to them.
七七 Qiqi (Qī qī)
[ Chi chi ]
Fun fact: 七 means seven. In ancient China, when someone died, the family would hold the body at home for 7 days before burying the body because they believed the soul will return home at the seventh day after death to meet the family one last time.
It can also refer to the typical mourning period for the deceased (7 weeks aka 7 x 7 = 49 days).
刻晴 Keqing (Kè qíng)
[ Kuh ching ]
Fun fact: 刻 means engraved and 晴 means sunny so engraved on a sunny day or always sunny.
香菱 Xiangling (Xiāng líng)
[ Si-yang ling ]
Fun fact: 香 means aromatic and 菱 means water caltrop aka an edible snack in Asia.

[ Gahn yuu ]
Fun fact: 甘 means sweet and 雨 means rain so sweet rain. :3
胡桃 Hutao (Hú táo)
[ Hoo t-ow ]
Fun fact: 胡桃 means walnut. Maybe referring to how zombie brains look like walnuts or how coffins are sometimes made out of walnuts... (-_-)ゞ
辛焱 Xinyan (Xīn yàn)
[ sin yan ]
Fun fact: 辛 means hard-working and 焱 means flames. Could imply that she's working hard to increase rock-n-roll popularity in Liyue through her music...
