You guys know by now about my running theory on elements and character traits right?
With Ayato I think I've just realized something else about Hydro and likely what our Hydro Archon will be like. It's just like with the theme of the Human Age. I can't believe I didn't see it until now.
Our Hydro characters have the moves don't they? Xingqiu's a prodigy of his family's martial arts. You've got Kokomi and Mona who have dazzling attacks. Barbara's an idol. And now Ayato with his fencing style. The only outlier would have been Childe but that's only if you look at his archery which he already admits he's a beginner. Use his skill to turn him melee and he's got the moves too.
I think it fits well with a French character inspired by the late period monarchy like our Hydro Archon would be. France back then is known for their elegance and flair thanks to Louis XIV. On the other hand there's another side of Ayato that might also work for someone in charge of law during what I believe will be around the French Revolution and long 19th century period of French history.
If you look at how people describe him especially Yae it seems Ayato's pretty much a grown up version of Xingqiu. Privileged upbringing with plenty of training to make him very skillful and dutiful in his role as the head of the clan. But that's all boring so just like Xingqiu Ayato is a prankster.
Now prankster isn't really Archon-like behavior but if we tie it to how our Hydro Archon lives for the spectacle of the courtroom then it might make more sense. I said before that I believe she's using the courtroom to silence anybody she feels could be going against Celestia because she doesn't want to attract their attention. Maybe my theory on Kokomi would be a better fit here. I think Kokomi in the original version of the Archon Quest made a deal with the Fatui to allow Watatsumi to become independent of Inazuma. So far while the new version hasn't stated it outright there really wasn't enough time to rework everything so Kokomi's own Character Quest plays out like a diplomatic meeting between the two nations of Narukami and Watatsumi. For Fontaine I feel like Pulcinella will also be using this courtroom to his advantage. So maybe the Hydro Archon is allowing him because if she can nudge Pulcinella into antagonizing the people she also wanted to convict in her courtroom then we'll be fighting against him instead. That way the Hydro Archon can pretend to have been fooled by the Fatui all along.
Of course in terms of being a prankster or having schemes I don't think either Barbara or Mona work out. I'm sure Mona's clever enough for it and she definitely sees through schemes easily enough but Barbara..... girl still doesn't realize Venti's Barbatos when he literally summoned Stormterror to take them to the archipelago. So that'll need to be looked into more. The elegance thing though. That's probably proven.
