So creepy. But the lore is well worth it. So the above screen came from part of the Orb of the Blue Depths Quest. But all of it boils down to collecting them all and unlocking the hidden gateway in the Nameless Ruins.
Do that and you'll find a faded letter and then it becomes I guess MiHoYo's first attempt at an ARG because there's no way to get the whole message on your own. Every player gets their own version of the letter so you have to go onto social media to figure that out and get the whole thing.
Which goes as follows:
Non custos si fingar ille Caenrium
non fulmineus ego lyrae Barbatos
non si pegaseo ferar volatu
non Morphes niveae citaeque bigae
adde huc plumipedas volatilesque
ventorumque simul require cursum
quos iunctos amica mea mihi dicares
defessus tamen omnibus medullis
et multis languoribus peresus
essem te mihi amica quaeritando
caelum dilabitur
falsitas collabitur
This poem is actually a copy of part of a Roman poem Carmen 58b by the poet Gaius Valerius Catullus. There is a translation for it on the official Genshin wiki and also on Reddit but to me they're really messy. So I tried to do my own version and clean it up so it's easier for it to make sense.
Here's mine:
I am not the guardian of the Khaenrians*
I am not the thundering lyre of Barbatos
I cannot fly like Pegasus
I am not the snowy, fluttering chariots of Morpheus*
Add here the feathery wings of birds
And winds along the same course
Which my love* bestow upon me
But it would still tire me down to my marrow
And I would be devoured by exhaustion
As I search for you my love
Heavens disperse
Lies collapse
Khaenrians - here the poem uses the Latin word Caenrium which might mean mud or filth. Notice how we have that new Dark Mud thing that's related to the Abyss?
Morpheus - in the original poem this is actually King Rhesus. Does that mean Morpheus will be a character in game?
my love - iunctos amica. Amica actually means a female friend but iunctos means couple so. I would have gone with girlfriend but my love sounded better for poetry. This is not the same in the original poem where it actually names a person specifically who the poet is in love with Camerius.
I'm going to be doing a deep dive into this one but I figure I'll throw my translation out here for now and see if you guys can get anything out of it. ![]()
