Overview

Gepard preparing to battle the Astral Express members in the Outlying Snow Plains
Gepard is the first Boss Enemy introduced in Honkai: Star Rail, being added into the game during Version 1.0: The Rail Unto the Stars. Lore wise, he's the captain of the Silvermane Guards, the military of Belobog and the last bastion of Jarilo-VI as a whole. He has two fights, one in the Outlying Snow Plains where he believes the Astral Express are aiding the criminal Sampo and a second where he attacks the Astral Express under the command of Cocolia, the Supreme Guardian of Belobog.
There are three versions of this fight, two of which will be covered in this guide:
- Gepard | the standard version of this boss, fought in the Trailblaze Missions of Jarilo-VI. Only contains one phase and summons Silvermane Cannoneers and Silvermane Gunners. Lore-wise, this is the real Gepard.
- Fought during the Trailblaze Mission Travelers on a Winter Night.
- Fought during the Trailblaze Mission Young Guard.
- Fought as an optional encounter during the Domain of Excursion Winter Solders' March.
- Gepard (Complete) | The endgame counterpart of the boss, containing a full three phases and the ability to summon Silvermane Guards and Silvermane Lieutenants (Complete). Lore-wise, this is a digital recreation of Gepard created by the Simulated Universe.
- Fought in the Simulated Universe stage World 3.
- Fought as a possible boss in the Simulated Universe mode Swarm Disaster.
- Fought as a possible boss in the Simulated Universe mode Gold and Gears.
- Fought in the Divergent Universe stage Untoppled Walls.
This guide will NOT include Gepard (Illusion), the event exclusive counterpart of the boss fought in the Virtual Scentventure event during Version 1.6: Crown of the Mundane and Divine. I have no images of the event and some information may be incorrect as it is harder to verify myself. Unfortunate, given I believe I did play the event, but oh well.
He is considered a Jarilo-VI enemy and can be considered to be a Boss Enemy counterpart of the Silvermane Guard, Silvermane Gunner, Silvermane Cannoneer and Silvermane Lieutenant enemies. In addition to this, Gepard is also a playable Character on the Path of Preservation.

Battle Notes | Barrier / Collective Shield

Gepard (Complete)'s health bar while Collective Shield is active.
Barrier is a unique Status Effect that can only be used by Gepard (NOT his Complete version) during his battles.
When Gepard uses Garrison Aura Field, he can apply Barrier to one of his allies. When an enemy has a Barrier, they are immune to all DMG for a single attack, with the exception of any DMG induced by a DoT Status Effect. To remove Barrier, simply attack the effected enemy once.
Collective Shield is a unique Status Effect that can only be used by Gepard (Complete) and acts as a more powerful counterpart of Barrier.
When Gepard (Complete) uses Garrison Aura Field in Phases 2 and 3, Gepard (Complete) will apply a Collective Shield to all of his allies on the field. When an enemy has a Collective Shield, they are immune to DMG amounting to 40% of Gepard (Complete)'s Max HP multiplied by the number of enemies on the field. All enemies' Collective Shields will take damage at the same time.
Gepard (Complete)'s Collective Shield's HP can be seen below his healthbar, and will break once it reaches 0.
Notably, if you have the Character Gepard you can apply your own Shield to the party with his Enduring Bulwark and Comradery, making these moves (specifically Comradery) a playable version of both moves.
Battle Notes | Team Composition

An example of a decent team for Gepard consisting of Welt, Bronya, Sampo and Bailu.
As the first Boss Enemy you encounter, Gepard is naturally pretty easy and is designed to be easily fought even with just The Trailblazer (Destruction), March 7th (Preservation) and Dan Heng. Of course, this doesn't mean that all Characters are equal and for the Complete version of the boss it might be worth planning ahead somewhat.
Gepard deals Ice DMG, meaning an item such as a Potato Fries Sundae could be useful if you have some.
Gepard, his Silvermane Gunners and his Silvermane Cannoneers are all weak to Physical DMG, meaning that Characters who can deal Physical DMG to all opponents will naturally be the most useful in this fight. Characters such as The Trailblazer (Destruction), Phainon, Evanescia or Argenti are excellent DMG dealers who can target all enemies this way. In addition to this, a Physical sustain unit such as Natasha or Clara could be useful in later stages as Gepard's ability to inflict his allies with Barrier will likely prolong any fights with him at higher levels.
Both Gepard and the Silvermane Cannoneers are weak to Imaginary DMG, meaning that either single target DPS or AoE DPS units that can deal Imaginary DMG are highly useful in this fight. Single target units such as March 7th (The Hunt) or Dr. Ratio are useful if you solely want to focus on damaging Gepard himself, while Characters such as Welt, The Trailblazer (Harmony) and Silver Wolf LV.999 can also quickly DMG the enemy team.
While both the Silvermane Gunners and Silvermane Cannoneers are weak to Ice DMG, Gepard himself has an innate 40% Ice DMG RES at all times, meaning that you'll likely want to save Ice Characters as sustain or sub-DPS units. Pela's debuffs, March 7th's shields and any Ice Remembrance Characters with Memosprites are especially useful as they can provide additional utility against Gepard in addition to focusing on the other enemies.
Gepard's Barriers cannot be used to nullify DoT DMG, meaning that Characters that specialize in inflicting these debuffs are also incredibly useful in this fight. Characters such as Kafka, Sampo, Hysilens or Black Swan can all deal large amounts of DMG to enemies even with their Barriers, with Luka and Hysilens especially also attacking all enemies' weaknesses.
Additionally, as always, characters who can summon additional units (such as Jing Yuan, Lingsha or anyone on the Path of Remembrance) are always useful as their extra attacks mean that it will be easier to whittle away at Gepard's Barrier. In addition to this, using Elation Characters allows Aha to trigger Aha Instant, allowing you to deal more Elation DMG with your current units.
Overall, there's a myriad of ways to fight Gepard and you'll likely have a (close to) perfect team that can counter him whether you are F2P or not. I'll list some team comps below so you have an idea of the best ways to counter him:
F2P Teams:
Early F2P Team: The Trailblazer (Destruction), March 7th, Dan Heng, Herta
Damage-Focus F2P Team: The Trailblazer (Destruction), March 7th (Imaginary), Herta, Natasha
Defense-Focus F2P Team: The Trailblazer (Preservation), March 7th (Preservation), Natasha, Lynx
Stellar Warp Teams:
Welt Main DPS: Welt, The Trailblazer (Remembrance), Bronya, Natasha
Clara Main DPS: Clara, The Trailblazer (Remembrance), Gepard, Bailu
Gepard Sustain: Welt, Himeko, Gepard, Natasha
Celestial Invitation Teams:
Yunli Main DPS: Yunli, Lynx, Pela, Natasha
Yunli/Clara DPS: Yunli, Clara, Herta, Natasha
Argenti Main DPS: Argenti, Bronya, The Trailblazer (Remembrance), Natasha
Argenti/Welt DPS: Argenti, Welt, The Trailblazer (Remembrance), Natasha
Silver Wolf Carry: Any DPS, Any DPS/Support, Silver Wolf, Lynx
Event Warp Teams:
Phainon Hypercarry: Phainon, Sunday, Cerydra, Huohuo
Near-Mono Elation: Evanescia/Silver Wolf LV.999, The Trailblazer (Elation), Yao Guang, Huohuo
Sunday Memosprite: Evernight, The Trailblazer (Remembrance), Sunday, Huohuo
Hysilens DoT: Hysilens, Kafka, Black Swan, Huohuo
When fighting the Gepard (Complete) variant of this boss, the unique adds he summons have different weaknesses to the enemies summoned during his normal fight.
Silvermane Soldiers are weak to both Quantum DMG and Wind DMG, meaning DoT characters such as Sampo or Black Swan could be more useful.
Silvermane Lieutenants (Complete) are weak to Physical DMG, Ice DMG and Quantum DMG. See the above descriptors for recommended Ice and Physical Characters.
When battling any variant of Gepard in the Simulated Universe, the best Path to use would be The Nihility as IX can use THEIR Path Resonance: Nihility to inflict further DoT status effects on all enemies on the field, bypassing Gepard's Barrier.

Extras | Achievements
Three of the four Achievements Gepard is related to are part of Eager for Battle
There are 4 Achievements that can be unlocked during battles against Gepard, three of which are part of the Eager for Battle category and one which is part of the Fathom the Unfathomable category. The Achievements are as follows:
- Code of Chivalry | Defeat Gepard without defeating any Silvermane Cannoneers or Silvermane Gunners.
- Foolish Little Brother... | Using Serval, defeat Gepard and deal the final blow.
- When the National Anthem Rings | Using Bronya, use The Belobog March against Gepard, Cocolia and Bronya.
- North Wind Creates Heroes | Defeat the optional encounter against Gepard in Winter Soldiers' March (Difficulty III).
Extras | Soundtrack
The album cover for Of Snow and Ember.
During battles against Gepard, the following tracks will play:
- Braving the Cold | Soundtrack #07 from the album Of Snow and Ember. Plays during all battles against Gepard and Gepard (Complete). Not a unique theme.
- Also plays when battling Elite Enemies in Backwater Pass, the Corridor of Faded Echoes, the Outlying Snow Plains and the Silvermane Guard Restricted Zone.
- This track cannot be heard in the in-game Phonograph.
Notably, Gepard is one of the few bosses in the game not to have a unique battle theme. Other bosses like this include:
- Bronya | Jarilo-VI (uses Order from Of Snow and Ember)
- Swarm: True Sting | N/A (dependent on area / no set theme, likely due to Simulated Universe counterpart being introduced first)
- Wonder Forest's Banacademic Office Staff | Penacony (uses Some Like It Hot from The Flapper Sinthome (Part 2)).

Writer's Notes | Question of the Day!
What's this, a 1.0 guide!? I've recently found myself with a lot of free time so I figured I'd finally go through the backlog and finish ALL the boss guides for HSR, starting from the beginning. I've tried including a lot more detail in the team comp and mechanic sections even for simpler bosses (like Geppie) and including extra bits like respective soundtracks and connections to any playable counterparts. I'll try and be a bit more regular whenever Honkai: Nexus Anima releases, but the Genshin Impact guides might be on the backburner for a while.
I'm thinking of doing full-on guides for each character as well as an infographic, but the assets for that might be harder to find as I don't own every character (unfortunately (#><)) so they might start after we catch up with all the bosses.
Oh right, boss notes... Gepard's fight is fun, shame about the soundtrack thing though. If you won't give him a true theme, at least let me listen to his knockoff one in my train! No idea why they didn't give him and Bronya a theme (or the other two I listed earlier), especially since base Cocolia has one, but oh well. His fight isn't nearly as nostalgic as the Cocolia, Mother of Deception fight (even if I did fight him near launch), but it still is fun whenever I see him on a challenge account of mine.
Speaking of which, maybe I should make some posts on those? ヽ(ー_ー )ノ
Enough rambling, I hope you all enjoyed the guide and look forward to the influx of content in the next few weeks or so! I hope all your Bladie pulls go well and you all have a great day!
Huh!? ... I hoped you enjoyed the guide.
