Hope everybody liked what they saw! I know I did especially with how much stuff we're getting this time.
But that is a question isn't it?
Why 2.0? Why not 1.7? This livestream has been very different from the other English ones. It feels more like some of the early Chinese ones on bilibili. And they also called this one a bigger update cycle compared to the rest.
If you've seen my other stuff you know I did predict some stuff like we'd be getting only part of the Archon Quests just like Liyue and that Yae Jinko excuse me Miko will be released alongside Baal next. But I called it v1.7 with v2.0 slated for the anniversary.
I mean there's no reason to skip numbers unless it means something. So for me I skipped v1.9 since we wouldn't have time for that before the anniversary. And a v2.0 would be a great name for the anniversary update not to mention how it would line up with v1.0 a year ago. Adding to that we'll be done with Inazuma so this v2.0 would be a fresh start for the game leading it into Sumeru and beyond with tons of anniversary fanfare.
So why is Inazuma v2.0?
Could it be we're getting a double update? What I mean is were we just seeing the preview for the first half of the v2.0 major update and most of it is the v1.7 part while the other stuff - Yae and Baal's banners + Act 3 - which I called v1.8 are going to be in the second half of v2.0?
And while this would be very big indeed there's a few things that could be a problem. For example each time we update we get this preview livestream and 300 primogems. Then we actually do update and we get another 600 gems for a total of 900 gems per update. Now if v2.0 is going to span the time periods of both v1.7 and v1.8 then we're going to be skipping those 900 gems. That would be terrible for f2p players. This also means no more QoL updates either so what we're seeing now is all we'll be getting until the end of September. Finally we have a whole bunch of events packaged together with Inazuma. You have to know we're expected to finish the Archon Quests and exploration first before we can properly navigate and do any of these events. (minus the ones like Theater Mechanicus happening in Liyue) But looking at it it still doesn't feel like it should take up 2 update periods. I mean if you pretend the Archon Quests are the major "event" of the update so we get the first 2 weeks that could still fit all of these events. So are we going to be getting more time like 2 weeks for the first Archon Quests then another week in the middle for the last Archon Quest? For the hardcore players this is going to be really annoying since they'll probably get these things done on the day of release.
On the other hand we'll be closing off the Inazuma chapter all in one go before finally getting the big anniversary update. It is possible this primogem drought will be 1000% made up by whatever huge surprises are in store for that update. Also starting at v2.1 could be a revision by MiHoYo. Back in v1.0 we were just getting started. Real story stuff wouldn't happen until v1.1 with the event Unreconciled Stars dropping a big foreshadowing hint at the lore while the final Act of Liyue set up the stakes of our journey. Maybe MiHoYo always intended for 1 to be the starting line for the game's next phases so the anniversary v2.1 will set up up for Dendro characters and the path towards Sumeru and then v3.1 and so on will each guide us to the next regions.
So what's your take? Why did MiHoYo choose to skip numbers for this update instead of the anniversary?
