I've been theory crafting that Yae is a deposed former Archon replaced by Baal the current Archon and Shogun of Inazuma.
You guys know about the Shogunate?
Basically it was a period in Japan where the ruler the Tenno was usurped but left as a figurehead while the general or Shogun took over true leadership of the country.
There are a few theories I've been seeing following the v2.0 preview saying Yae is the real Archon and Raiden is just a smokescreen. And this theory lends itself well because technically the Tenno or heavenly emperor would be the rightful ruler Japan and the Shogun technically rules under him.
So if the original Archon one of the Seven was Yae Miko then deposing her to become the new Archon would pretty much be right up Baal's alley. She is a shogun after all. And true to the Shogunate she then goes and makes Yae the Guuji or head priestess of her shrines a figurehead in Inazuma.
It's pretty clever of MiHoYo to drop hints like that with Japanese history. But you know they also did it with Japanese language too!
