The Smartest Way to Spend Money in Genshin

Many new characters are coming with the addition of Inazuma, and some people are deciding this is their chance to break free of their F2P journey and spend a few dollars on the game they love. However, spending money is tricky, and you might regret a purchase if you don’t know what you’re doing. Even if you’re a whale or plan on being one, it’s important to know what you’re buying, and overall it’s nice to save a few dollars, although this guide is more centered around dolphins or P2P. This commentary will include what I personally think are the best buyable items in the game and why they are better than buying Genesis Crystals themselves (all prices are in USD).
Why Genesis Crystals Are a “Scam”
➤ First off, I would like to explain why buying flat genesis crystals is not a good idea. For first-time buyers, it might seem like a good idea, since you get double for your first purchase. I do recommend buying genesis crystals for the FIRST time if you have the money to do so. However, once those bonuses are gone, you become aware of how much money it costs to get a decent amount of wishes.
➤ 6,480 crystals, which is the $100 pack, is only 40 wishes. $200 is barely enough to bring you to the brink of pity. Unfortunately, this is the only way to get mass primogems, but if you don’t have the funds to continuously buy, I highly encourage you to stick to getting primos from the BP, Welkin, commissions, events, etc., not by buying genesis crystals.
➤ You should also be saving/spending your primogems on the event banner. The standard banner is always going to be there, and getting wishes from events, rewards, or character ascensions should be enough to gradually work your way up to pity. The weapon banner is a scam, we all know that. The event banner is limited, so being able to pull when it is available is super important! Unless you have the funds, only spend (if you’re going to buy crystals) on the event banner.
Buying Resin
➤ If there’s one thing you pay attention to while reading this, please let it be this specific section. DO NOT BUY RESIN!! If you’re below AR 45, there is no need to be continuously farming. If you are AR 45+, suck it up. Don’t buy resin. If you max refill, it’s about $10. Wishes and primogems are more important than something that replenishes in a few hours.
➤ Especially with the addition of fragile resin in the BP and transient resin from the furnishing shop, there are multiple ways to get more resin without spending money. So once again, save that money and DO NOT buy resin.
Bundles
➤ Bundles are dumb. I personally have never bought a bundle, so I can’t really say if they are worth the amount of money they cost, but for reference, the Wayfarer’s Supply bundle, which is supposedly the better one (it costs 980 crystals- roughly $15) for 25 enhancement ores, 50 hero’s wits, 1 fragile resin, and 50k mora. You can farm hero’s wits, mora, and crystals for enhancement ores. If you buy the BP the rewards are plenty. I say the bundles aren’t worth any money. There’s no point in rushing through the game at a higher AR so waiting to farm the next day is a much better option than blowing $15 on such little materials.
Gnostic Hymn vs. Gnostic Chorus (Battle Pass)
➤ The battle pass is one of the best purchases in the game in my opinion. However, I strongly believe that the Gnostic Chorus is a waste of an extra $10 though. You do get a cute name card, some fragile resin, advance 10 levels, and with new updates you get exclusive furnishings, but it’s really not needed in the slightest. You get enough fragile resin from the BP rewards, and there is PLENTY of time to max out your BP without the extra 10 levels, even if you start to slack and don’t move 10 levels on your own every week. By the end of the BP period, you should be at 50 if you play the game enough. Gnostic Chorus is not worth the extra $10. Maybe $5? Unless you really care for cosmetics (which you shouldn’t), stick with the Gnostic Hymn.
➤ The rewards from the Gnostic Hymn BP are generous. About 2mil mora, lots of hero’s wits, lots of enhancement ores, fragile resin, talent books, and most importantly weapons, all with crit rate substats and very nice, versatile passives. In order to keep this article short and sweet, I won’t be specific and speak on the BP weapons and which ones I think are good/better than the others. Maybe a future article though!
Welkin Moon
➤ Welkin Moon is often advertised in the game as a good deal. And it is! If you were to buy $5 worth of genesis crystals, you would get 300. Welkin Moon costs $5 and still gives you that amount (300), but also 2700 primogems over the course of 30 days. That’s 90 primogems daily from welkin ALONE. Add in commissions and you have a wish every day. The only downside to welkin is that if you fail to log in one day, you missed your chance to claim 90 primos. Those 30 days go by regardless of you not logging in to your account. This shouldn’t be a problem though- if you’re spending money on Genshin that usually means you grind this game a bunch.
Skins
➤ I personally do not have the funds to buy skins. ;-; I don’t have Jean either, so that doesn’t matter, but some people are into cosmetics so let's have a little chat over skins. Currently, skins are about $25 on sale. There’s no way for F2P to be able to buy these skins, as you NEED genesis crystals. This is the only time where I’d say buying genesis crystals is okay… because it’s the only way to buy a skin! Unless you buy like 5 welkins, which would cost more money but would give more rewards in the long run, but I do believe there is a cap to how many welkins you can buy. Cosmetics aren’t important, but I understand that some people really love certain characters and want them to have skins. Not the best idea if you’re looking to save money though!
CONCLUSION
➤ Spend money if you can and want to! The best way to get the most out of what you buy is to get the Gnostic Hymn and the Welkin Moon. DO NOT buy resin. I hope you’ll be able to pull who you want with the new update! Happy wishing and happy spending!
