1. Introduction
Good morning captains!

I've decided to write this guide because Physical Breach was introduced in 5.0. In this guide, we'll be taking an in-depth look at how DEF, Impair, Physical and Elemental Breach works as well as how to calculate your valkyrie's crit rate. All calculations below are taken from this spreadsheet's data.

2. DEF and Impair
All enemies have DEF. Impairing effects reduces the enemy's DEF by X% amount.
The formula for calculating the effect of DEF is

A valkyrie's level is capped at 80. Since all of my Valkyrie's levels are capped, I’ll be using (level of the attacking valkyrie) = 80. Therefore, the effect of DEF can be simplified as

Many Exaled MA bosses have 996 DEF. For enemies with 996 DEF, any physical damage is multiplied by a factor of 1900 / 2896 = 0.656~. Impair amount is directly deducted from DEF. Let's say Impair is 75% (Herrscher of Sentience ultimate), so the multiplier for 996 DEF is now 1900 / (1900 + (1 - 0.75) * DEF) = 1900 / (1900 + 249) = 0.884. That’s a total of 22.8% of damage mitigation from DEF gone!
Damage increase as a result of impair is

As another example, after applying impair using Herrscher of Sentience’s ultimate skill, physical attacks against an Exalted Memorial Arena boss (996 DEF) can be calculated as

Impair is always expressed as a percentage. As far as is known, all sources of Impair replace previous Impair, except when specified "Impair when unimpaired", in which case they do nothing. (Only 1 source of Impair can be active.)

3. Calculating Crit Rate
Critical rate caps at 100%, at which all the Valkyries attacks will critically strike.
Main crit rate sources are:
- CRT (a Valkyrie’s base crit rate)
- Weapon
- Stigmatas
- Valkyrie skills
CRT
CRT is not valkyrie’s total crit rate. CRT is a valkyrie’s base crit rate stat. It can be converted to crit rate by using the formula below. For example, a level 80 valkyrie with 91 CRT will have a 19.16% base crit rate.

Weapon and Stigmatas
Various weapons and stigmatas will offer a bonus crit rate. Some famous examples would be the 11th Leitourgia PRI-ARM weapon and Shattered Swords stigmata set, which boost the on-field Valkyrie’s crit rate by 20% and 10% respectively.

Weapon and Stigmatas
Some Valkyries have built-in skills that boost own and/or the team members' crit rate by a noticeable amount. For instance, Yamabuki Armor’s augment core form, Drive Kometa, has a shield that boosts all team members crit rate by 10%

4. Physical Breach
Physical Breach was introduced in Elysian Realm this patch.

Some enemies have base physical resistance. The most notable one is Benares, which has 50% base physical damage resistance regardless of her DEF is 0. Base physical resistance stacks multiplicatively with DEF. Exalted Memorial Arena Benares has 996 DEF. When not impaired, Benares has (1900/(1900+996))*0.5 = 67.2% physical resistance. Total physical resistance can be calculated as

Physical Breach directly reduces an enemy’s physical resistance. Physical Breach damage increase can be calculated as

There is only 1 source of physical Breach as of patch 5.0, so I'm not 100% sure how different sources of physical Breaches stack. Theoretically, it should stack additively.

5. Elemental Breach
Similar to physical resistance and DEF, all enemies have elemental damage resistance. Many Exalted Memorial Arena bosses have 31% elemental damage resistance. 31% resistance means any elemental damage is reduced to (100% - 31%) = 69% of the original damage value. Elemental Breach directly reduces an enemy’s elemental resistance.

Different Breach buffs also stack additively. For example, 14% Breach from AE Ult and 12% Breach from Herrscher of Flamescion herrscher form, adding up to a total of 26%, results in most Exalted Memorial arena bosses having (31%-26%) = 5% elemental resistance. Shadow Knight(at high stacks) and Jiizo Mitama (72.4%) have unusually high elemental resistance. 31% resist with 26% Breach results in 95 / 69 = 1.377~ times more damage. 72.4% resist with 26% Breach results in 53.6 / 27.6 = 1.942~ times more damage. The formula for calculating damage increase as a result of having Elemental Breach is

6. Conclusion
It's important to have some common knowledge about how your valkyrie deals damage. What are the damage mitigations, and where can you increase your damage output? These are good questions to ask to improve your results. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment below. I will answer the question as soon as possible
