When the livestream dropped I think most of us were thinking Albedo vs Eula. We were thinking Bennett and Amber would be her backup and somehow we're caught in the middle and have to figure something out.
But with the tie-in events being as light as they are I predicted that what we saw is just a misunderstanding and the story is meant to bring Albedo closer to the others in Mondstadt.
Then the quest happened. So I think we're getting both. There is obviously a misunderstanding and I'm pretty sure it'll end up with Albedo being closer with his fellow knights especially Eula but the story is by no means as light as I thought it would be. All the tie-in events are actually unrelated to the quest and that's something we haven't seen yet which is interesting.
But anyway it's those titles for the next parts that really make what happened in this one juicy. The cat's out of the bag! Everybody who believed Rhinedottir and Gold were the same person give yourselves a pat on the back. I did not think MiHoYo would drop that on us so quickly or that Albedo would tell us what he really is.
So an update to my prediction is that Albedo's twin is what's left of his "brother" Durin. From the dialogue it feels like he's disconnected with the world but without Rhinedottir around he's no longer an evil dragon and is trying to figure out his place in the new world.
But if that's wrong then I'm going to go with my first idea before I got the "it's probably light-hearted" theory and that's that the thief/twin is Rhinedottir herself seeing if her creation figured anything out about Khemia since the last time they were together. But if it is Rhinedottir I'm going to say we won't catch her. The scene from the trailer will play out towards the end of our chase and Albedo will notice who we are actually chasing but we won't have any confirmation of it while Albedo might even stop us from pursuing at the end saying something like "I've got a hunch we'll be seeing them again before long."
That said I really hope it'll be Durin. I feel like this game tries to put positive spins on most of its story except where it relates to the Fatui and the Abyss. So I'm rooting for Durin finding a new path and giving Dragonspine new life. The interaction with Joel makes me feel like Durin somehow protected his dad (could it be something like Draff's ancestor?) and was trying to reunite them when Eula stopped him. I also hope he'll help give Albedo a little more "nationality" so he can be closer with his fellow knights. That could play a major role much later on when he loses control.
