Premature Theorizing

Remember boys never shoot too soon. Timing is everything.

Literally. This time the time is everything.

Time. Ok I'm done.

When this game came out we had a pretty big quest on somewhere called the "nameless island" where we find out that Mondstadt not only had Venti the Anemo Archon but also a God of Time. Since there was no more information than that people who did that quest started jumping to conclusions.

There were theories about Venti actually being the God of Wind AND Time or that he knows the God of Time who is the Sustainer. And because of the Sustainer we all know what else happened. People assumed Paimon must then be the god and used our menu ability to change the time of day as proof of her power. And of course if it's related to the Sustainer then of course Celestia also got a mention.

I've talked about this before saying unless there's multiple points that all lead to the same conclusion on their own then there's really no theory. It's just a random guess. Just because there is a God of Time never meant it had to be someone we already knew like Paimon or Venti. And since just the relationship to Mondstadt and a single game feature dealt with time as a power/element that alone doesn't lead to anything conclusive.

Thanks to v2.4 and Enkanomiya we now know all of these theories are null and void. There is already a God of Time and she is named and has a history now. The God of Time is the totally new and previously unrelated character Istaroth. She used to co-rule Mondstadt (post Decarabian I might add so that's stuff we still need more info on) before seeing the hardships of the sunken island Byakuyakoku (Nation of the White Night aka Enkanomiya) and leaving Mondstadt to help them. After that we don't know where she went so that's more stuff to learn about in the future.

Istaroth is pretty easily Astaroth which is in the Ars Goetia so she's a confirmed Archon and is the Great Duke of Hell. (MiHoYo was also being cute sticking her last known whereabouts in Inazuma because Astaroth is part of the evil trinity of Astaroth, Lucifer and you guessed it Beezlebub our dango loving Electro Archon.) Also why the "i" instead of "a" in her name? Well give MiHoYo a cookie because it turns out the name Astaroth comes from the Phoenician goddess Astarte who is what they called the old Sumerian (ehe) goddess Ishtar. Astaroth comes from the Greek version of the Jewish version of Astarte which is Ashtaroth. Now that's a game of telephone of biblical proportions! Also the Jews turned her into a guy. Biblical transgendering ftw!

Anyway that means she's not Paimon or the Sustainer or Celestia and definitely not Venti. And time isn't some secret 8th Element. (though I personally also have an "8th element" theory but more on that some other time ehe)

Ooo and there's another reason I brought up Ishtar but more on that another time too.
