I did guess that v2.2 would have only rerun banners and they would save the new 5*s for a later patch. But I only said that because I said v2.2 (actually v2.0) should be dedicated to the anniversary. What's the point of chucking up reruns on a normal update when you have new characters ready? Missed on both points MiHoYo. I made a big deal out of properly hyping the anniversary for good reason. Look how it went. [emoji]
It's nice of them to finally give Xinyan some attention. We're even getting a free Xinyan at the end just like many previous events before it like Unreconciled Stars that provided a free Fischl. Here's the problem....s. There's a few.
Xinyan isn't like the other freebie 4*s we've gotten. Fischl back when she was given out was a highly sought after Support Character. Diona has been touted by many players who don't have Zhongli as a good shield character on top of being a healer and Beidou is both a good DPS and a permanent part of the Fireworks Team Comp. What's Xinyan? She's Liyue's Amber.
Also who was part of the last banner we had in v2.0?
Both Sayu and Yoimiya were on that banner so you can bet tons of people pulled and many of them likely got a Xinyan too because Sayu was notoriously hard to get.
So I have to ask how valuable do you think she is as a freebie MiHoYo?
Hu Tao rerun I get. Halloween comes at the end of the month. She's ghost themed. It's fun.
Why Childe?
People have been asking for Albedo. They have asked for Ganyu. Our last rerun was Klee meaning either of these 2 makes sense to come next. If you want Ganyu to release as a rerun with Yae Miko because of their relationship sure. v2.3 but then why not Albedo for v2.2? Why Childe for the 3rd time?
On the other hand whatever went on behind the scenes with the story it only makes sense now if it was changed. According to what they said Childe is part of the new event meaning we still have Fatui in Inazuma even after the Signora and Delusions incidents. There's no way the Fatui would be safe on Narukami with the Shogun around and after Kokomi's story supposedly only stragglers are left anywhere in Inazuma.So how could Childe run any kind of operation there? How could he even dock safely with Raiden's storm still going? Unless we think about the real story where Kokomi made a deal with the Fatui for Watatsumi's independence and now she has to help their operations. And Ei was ousted so her storm is gone as is the Sakoku Decree. (btw kind of funny that's still going on and everybody's suddenly fine with it lol)
On a better note I like that they are still working on the Serenitea Pot and giving us new stuff. Being able to make legit floating islands is a pretty cool addition. But I think they're going to flub this too. If we can only build in the same area. If they are still locked onto the grid so nothing can be placed under them. If they still require Load I don't think too many people can use them.
Being able to use the Electrogranum in Serenitea Pot would be a fun alternative to the teleporters. Imagine if you could put one of those floating granum islands next to your builds so you could zip to them and then glide back down to your islands. Very fun for Floating Abode. Or you could set them up as alt routes to get around Emerald Peak.
But if they are stuck in the same area why would I build one of these floating islands that take up so much space and not just a teleporter that I could access from my map? Plus the teleporter probably eats up less Load too.
Another fun thing is the new guitar. Not sure how it'll work. Hopefully it can produce different sounds to the lyre for some fun coop compositions. But just like the lyre I feel like MiHoYo's going to forget to do any marketing for it so it'll be fun for a hot second and then people will move on.
If they were more pr savvy they could build on it with musical contests or start focusing on Barbara and Xinyan with some new kind of Hangout. We have some really creative players and some of the stuff they came up with using the lyre is really fun. But I doubt MiHoYo will figure that out lol
I think it's time to call a spade a spade. Genshin will still be a really cool game with high quality cutscenes and very well researched and designed characters and lore. We'll still be playing this thing until we have our showdown against the Herrscher of the Void in like 5 years. But MiHoYo's not going to get better at pr. They got in over their head with this and to be fair no developer has experience with something on this scale. It's just a shame MiHoYo thought they could still use the standard gacha model and didn't think things through. If you guys want to get angry at them over and over again each time they mess up be my guest. But it might be better for your sanity to just not count on them to do right by us in the future and just play the game for what it is.
Of course that also makes me feel like the Genshin Golden Age is over. In this first year we were all dewy eyed looking on in amazement at this thing that didn't exist at the time. But now that developers know what power can come out of mobile devices I don't think it'll be too long before Genshin's no longer alone in the market.
