Hello! In this guide I'll be looking at the new difficulty challenges in Elysian Realm version 5.5, and give some Valkyrie/gear recommendations to go with it.

Overview

These are all the difficulty challenges available in ver5.5.

HP 1 and 2 and ATK 1 and 2 are the same for every version. Generally, taking the ATK challenges are easier than the HP challenges.

Enemy Enhanced: Berserk is also in every version, and is quite easy to deal with. If trying to farm Rusted Insignias, it's a good one to take as it gives more rewards without being too challenging.

Type Rejection: Elemental and Physical are modified versions of challenges from ver5.1. The recommendation is to take the one that matches your valkyries main attacking type -- eg. Palatinus Equinox is a physical attacker, so you take Type Rejection: Physical.

The rest of the challenges are new, and will be gone through in more detail below.

Enemy Enhanced: Ascent

This challenge replaces Husk - Nihilus on floor 16 with HoD Minion. HoD Minion is IMG type, and thus has a Nihilus seed to deal with. Depending on how you feel about Husk - Nihilus and HoD Minion, this challenge may not be considered a challenge at all. The extra 10 difficulty will still strengthen enemies though.

This challenge is clearly made specifically for Palatinus Equinox, one of the only IMG-type Valkyries, but if you don't have her, Midnight Absinthe is also IMG-type. QUA-type is weak against IMG, so try to avoid using those Valkyries.

DMG Rejection: Weapon Skill

This challenge can be somewhat countered by using frequent weapon skills, at least once every 8s. Very few weapons have cooldowns that short, but some weapons have multiple charges, which let you use the skills more without worrying about the cooldown.

Once again, this challenge is clearly made for Palatinus Equinox, because of her attack Cannon Barrage, which lets you use weapon skills with no CD when in Guardian Form. However, you need her signature weapon, Midnight Eclipse, or the PRI version, Midnight Ataegina, to use Cannon Barrage.

Some honourable mentions are Bright Knight: Excelsis with [Blessing of Glory], for 70% reduced weapon skill CD in burst mode, and Starchasm Nyx with [Blessing of Toxic Bath], for 50% reduced weapon skill CD. Nyx's weapon Sanguine Gaze is also one of the few weapons with a CD below 8s, and is reset when entering and exiting burst mode. Obviously, the NOT recommended things are any weapons without weapon skills.

Enemy Enhanced: Immortality

This challenge heavily discourages you from using any burst mode Valkyries. This takes a few previously recommended options off the table, so you might not want to take this challenge if you're using some of them. You can get up to 120D without taking this.

Once again, Palatinus Equinox can work well against this, as Guardian/Knight forms aren't burst modes. Spina Astera, as well as any other Valkyrie without a burst mode, can also work.

Alternatively, you can bring a Valkyrie with a burst mode, and just not use it. There are various builds for different Valks, but they may not be viable for higher difficulties (like 140D). It is an option if you want to try though.

Final Summary

Clearly, Palatinus Equinox is the best choice for this cycle. This makes sense, because she's one of the new Valkyries, like Silverwing last cycle. However, if you don't manage to get her, or her signature weapon, there are other options.

Midnight Absinthe is the next best option. As an IMG-type Valk, she has a good matchup against HoD Minion, and as an archer, she has 2 weapon skill charges to weaken [DMG Rejection: Weapon Skill]. She also doesn't have a burst mode, and so won't trigger the extra DMG reduction of [Enemy Enhanced: Immortality]. Since she's a base A-rank Valk, she's also farmable and more accessible to players.

Another option is to use your strongest Valkyrie, and remember that you only need 140D for all the rewards, and 130D for all the crystals. You can avoid certain challenges that you have a bad matchup against. If you plan on taking both [Type Rejection] challenges, make sure you check your ELF, support Valkyries, weapons and stigmata, to make sure you don't do any damage of a type you don't want. Especially check stigmata affixes, which could be easily missed.
